Good advice. Reliability is the #1 priority.
FMJ are out of fashion and I suspect SWC loads, especially if labeled hard cast, may have been granted a charitable reputation in some circles.
That said, my woods loads tend toward SWC, flat nose soft point or XTP projectiles.
I've honestly just reached a point in my life in which I've gotten fed up with paying a premium for ammo which is 100% marketing.
I've gotten burned just a little too hard buying the latest and greatest whiz-bang, high-tech, LEO-only, JHP ammo only to find out that it doesn't expand reliably when shot into milk jugs or clear ballistics gel, that I sure as heck aren't enthusiastic about paying a premium for a hardcast lead projectile when I already know from experience that a flat-nosed .40cal+ FMJ won't deform unless it hits something extremely hard like concrete.
