Default M&P 5.7 Availability??

Have any normal, (not youtube and other product promoter) people actually seen one of these M&P 5.7 pistols?
A local gun store is going to try and get one for me as soon as they can but as of a few days ago they weren't even to the distributors yet.
Any educated guesses as to when they may start showing up?
Thanks
J.

I'm wondering the same thing. I emailed S&W but have yet to receive a response.

Seems the CSX, Equalizer and M&P Metal were available as soon as they were announced. Why isn't the 5.7?!

I hate to be THAT GUY, but when I started searching for my m&p10mm, it was about 3 months after announcement that I finally found one in store. The metal in my area was the same story unfortunately.

They are now available at some online retailers, albeit over MSRP!

Apparently grabagun.com sold out their allotment or they didn't really have them as when you try to put them in the basket they come up with an out of stock message.
When they first listed them they had a $649.99 price.
I made a comment on one of the youtube 5.7 videos that a discount price is worthless on a product you don't actually have.
I was taken to task for that comment being "informed" that is what they will sell them for as compared to MSRP.
Well it appears that he was correct in that they are not going to ask MSRP for them, they've added an extra $40!

Got a response from S&W, "The 5.7 is being manufactured and shipped I do not have eyes on what distributors have it in stock I would suggest trying to purchase the firearm through an online dealer and have it shipped to your local dealer for transfer."
...but the ten I found online that listed it all show 'Out of Stock'.

I saw the M&P 10mm on 'the auction sites' soon after they were announced, for 150% of MSRP of course, and put one on order with each of the area stores right away but still waited 4+ months to get my hands on one. Hoping this wait won't be as long.

First FN, then Ruger, next up was KelTec, and now S&W...I don't get what is driving the trend to release pistols in 5.7, and I guess I really don't understand what it does better than some other well-established calibers out there. Anyone care to share their opinion?

Then hopefully I'll be able to get one sooner.

The round has been around for 30 years. They designed the round and then built the P90 and FiveseveN around the round. Unfortunately (most) of us are not able to purchase the round originally designed, only the practice round (SS197) or recent loadings for it.
It's a very accurate mini-.223 so reloading it offers so many options but...the laquer delayed blowback of the FN, etc. make it difficult to reload (cycle properly, etc.). I'm excited to see what S&W's Tempo gas operated system offers.
5.7x28mm is low recoil and a 33gr Varmint Gernade is much more effective than a .22LR or .22 Rimfire Magnum against destructive critters in my area and it is much quiter than .22 Hornet, etc.

What drives the release of any pistol? Every need and problem has been solved 10x over by what is currently available. Or even what was available 10 years ago. I'm sure there are a bunch of folks out there that wouldn't mind playing with a niche cartridge or two. Heck, I can't come up with a really legitimate need or requirement for a 5.7 but I'm intrigued by the idea. But I can't really come up with a truly legitimate need for almost any of the guns I own.

They release them because people will buy them and they will make money

You keep using that pesky word "need". Let's use the correct verb "to Want". I want; you want; he wants. We want, You want, they want.

The 5.7 X 28mm is my home defense round. I have SS193, subsonic ammunition loaded in my PS90...which the FN FiveseveN was NOT designed to cycle.

If either Ruger's 57 or S&W's are able to cycle it, I'll be buying one or the other.

It's a fascinating round. Here is a link to one of my experiments:

Looks like the no thumb safety SKU 13348 are out and about, and they're coming down in price. Last one I saw sell was only 115% of MSRP instead of the 150% the first ones sold for.

It's impossible to predict when the 5.7 will be readily available, but you can preorder it at Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore at $649 which is $50 under MSRP.

SOS is generally pretty good at getting in a good supply of firearms and is a reliable place to do business with.

Just a moment...

I think the market is nearing saturation with 9mm pistols and manufacturers are looking for something "new" to capture our interest.
I remain mystified by these 5.7 offerings, though. I work in a gun store and I simply don't see customers staring at the gun cases saying, "I just wish they made 'em in 5.7".

One sold Wednesday on GunBroker for $999 plus $29.99 shipping.
Two sold for $649 with free shipping.
Cost a lot to be the first kid on your block to have something new!

It’s a fun round to shoot. I bought a fiveseven back in 2016 to try out. My daughters, who were 15, 13, and 12 at the time absolutely loved it and it quickly became the most expensive gun to shoot that I owned. I kept it for a few months, but sent it down the road. I hear ammo for it is even more expensive than the ~$.50 per round I was paying back then. I reload and shoot .22TCM, which feels a lot like 5.7, but is cheap to reload and shoots out of a 1911.

My son manages several local gun stores/ranges, and was able to see and handle the new S&W 5.7 at the SHOT Show a few weeks ago. He was told by the S&W reps that they should be available in local shops sometime in Feb. Right now my son is at the Nation's Best Sports (NBS) Spring Show in Ft. Worth ordering hundreds of guns for his stores for the next 6 months...included in those orders will be quite a few S&W 5.7s. Expect to see them in shops soon.

I will admit that I was not familiar with the 5.7 when Ruger came out with their version, but strangely enough I stumbled upon a review last night. Then I log in here and see that S&W is coming out with one. The reviews I read yesterday said the 5.7 was a very effective self defense round, was accurate and with light recoil. Supposedly the bullet tumbles and creates a wound channel more effective at stopping a threat than some other popular rounds. I can see the need for pistols in 5.7 considering all the women that are getting into shooting and self defense. I can also understand the questions here about why it is needed because I suspect most of you are like me, an old white guy.

I would be thrilled to just be wealthy enough to afford ammo that cost me a buck every time I pull the trigger.

HK developed the much less successful 5.7x28mm competitor 4.6x30mm. There will be snowmen in hell before HK produces a firearm chambered in 5.7x28mm.

5.7s are beginning to arrive at stores. My son's Central Florida gun store has two in stock right now (no thumb safety) for $650. More on the way. Just FYI.
