M&P 5.7 optic questions
Does anyone know if plates are needed for the new M&P 5.7 pistol? Or is it a direct mill for a specific footprint? Do the correct length screws for securing the optics come with the gun? Will full size optics like a SRO or RMR fit this pistol?

I don't have a S&W 5.7, but I know that it's an M&P model so the slide is cut for optics. It should be like my M&P 10mm and come with 6 or 8 plastic optics plates for different style red dot optics. I have read about a few issues with using the plastic plates for larger caliber pistols (with lots of recoil), but the 5.7 has almost no recoil so the S&W plates should be fine. I have the S&W plastic plate and a Holosun 507C on my 10mm and have had zero issues.

My bad...I gave some bad info yesterday. Later in the day I stopped by my son's gun store to ask about the S&W M&P 5.7, and what accessories came with the pistol. They weren't sure either, so we opened up a brand new 5.7- it is indeed cut for optics (CORE), but there were no S&W optics plates in the box. My son then called his S&W Rep and asked some questions. The 5.7 is cut for a specific optic, a Trijicon RMR, but also fits any Holosun red dot optic like the 507c and k. The Rep also commented that Holosun-provided mounting screws may not be the right length for the 5.7. Why S&W decided to go this route with the 5.7 is a mystery to me- it really limits the models of red dots that can be mounted. The other M&P 2.0 CORE pistols (like my 10mm) had 7 different optics plates, and mine worked great with the provided S&W Type 1 mounting plate and my Holosun 507C.

I watched all of the video reviews on this pistol as it came out. In at least 1 of the videos, it was stated that S&W went with the system they did because of the width of the slide. So the optics don't hang off the slide as much.
I don't put optics on handguns, so the models it does fit is all Greek to me. But, I remember hearing that.

I have a 507k mounted on my SW 5.7, i had to go buy a different set of mounting screws from Ace hardware since both sets of screws that came with the optic did not fit correctly (no 6 machine screw, 1/2")
it hanges over the edge of the slide just enough to catch with a fingernail but not too severely. its possible an EPS carry might fit flush but they dont get much smaller than that. mounting something larger might work if itll fit the footprint.
-no plate needed for 507k, mounts direct to slide no problem.

Looking for red dot mounting hardware with a bigger sized head so they won't strip ou
I need mounting screws for my m&p 57 that have a stronger hex head/torx head then a #11... maybe 1 size bigger. I've not stripped out the ones I was sent with the red dot but I have in the past on another pistol & don't want the head ache of dealing with that again. Im.not speaking about the threads, I'm talking about the torx/Allen wrench easily stripping out the head of the machine screws. Even if you don't lock-tite the screws & only torque them to the -inch lbs- recommend, Even with no lock tite, those can still strip the heads when un mounting the red dot.
Also... The 507c & 407c holosun foot prints WON'T fit the m&p 57 "direct to slide". Only the 507k & 407k, & the EPS red/green dots will direct mount.
My m&p 57 didn't come with any mounting plates. The owners manual says to NOT use the screws used from S&W to hold the red dot mounting location cover piece but rather you use the screws provided with the holoson red/green dot.
I just feel the size hex/torx head used is too small. They need to be bigger and there are some screws that are the correct length and have the correct thread pitch & diameter AND stronger heads that don't strip out. A 2mm Allen or torx bit is very likely to strip out. In torx bits sizes, I'd like to see/find some that are #11 or larger...
Any help is appreciated. Nothing worse then fastners with the heads stripped out on the top of your slide..
My last question is about trigger upgrades for the S&W 57? Apex says they do not make any for this gun... only striker fired m&p's will they make trigger upgrades.
Does anyone know of anyone else?

That is the correct thread size and length using a flat head socket cap screw. Use blue loc-tite - torque to 12 inch pounds.
Also, the slide is cut for a RMSc optic footprint.

The factory trigger is as good as or better than anything Apex makes IMHO.
