I purchased an Equalizer ; 3 mags came with it a 10 rd ,13 rd. and a 15 rd. The 13 rd. and 15 rd. began to fail to lock open when empty, not every time 4 out 10 on average. I called Smith customer service and asked about mag replacement. Instead I received 2 mag springs and followers. These are no better.I have stretched the springs , no help. Any one else have mag issues with this series of mags?

You stretched the mag spring?? Its now junk . What ammo are you using now ? If some wallet friendly 115gr fodder try some 124gr or 147gr from speer or federal or hornady standard pressure , not +P ammo . You might also try the a HP ammo you hope to carry . Some new handguns ammo choices can be an issue till you get some rounds down range and shooters experience can be a source of your problems too since this is a random issue .

Failure to lock the slide after the last round is fired is usually the fault of a weak magazine spring and/or worn follower. It can also be caused by a slide lock that does not properly contact the magazine follower, so a visual examination of the position of the slide stop's ledge on the follower of an empty magazine inserted into the pistol is in order.

Another possibility is the position of your thumb when firing. A thumb resting on the slide lock lever can be just enough pressure to prevent the slide lock from rising and catching the slide.

Spring stretching, seen that a lot and not just with firearms. Coil springs are wound at a specific spacing distance. Stretching them will make the spring longer, but weakens the spring wire and it will quickly take a permanent set that is often shorter than what it was before stretching.

What ammo? I would also pay attention to thumb position, either touching the slide lock or dragging the slide.

What you describe is not unusual. 99% of the time the reason the slide fails to lock back on an empty magazine is because of the shooters grip. Your thumb(s) are likely interfering with the free movement of the slide lock while under recoil. Try shooting with one hand only(or left hand only) being careful not to touch the slide lock. You will probably find the slide locks back on empty as it should. Good luck!

All of my mags work great only issues was when new super hard to load even with loader that came with them. Otherwise it works as it should no issues at all. L
