First I could only get +5 out of (so far) S&W MP 17rd 9mm full size

I loaded 22 rounds in the mag by hand. let it sit for almost a week, hand cycled them and went to load the rounds back in and could only get 21 rounds in. i pulled the base off and the spring was folded over on itself. is it because i loaded the rounds by hand instead of a loader or is it a bad spring?

It appears that S&W continues to have magazine spring problems. That is exactly the same issue that was frequently encountered on the 9mm Shield guns. Not sure what 3 world country or supplier they get their springs from but it continues and S&W's name sinks even lower.

i actually used the 12 coil spring that came with the extension.

I bought 2 of these and only tried 1

I thought I would take the spring out and compare it to the one I haven't used yet and after taking it out of the mag is was bent again. The spring is trash, where it keeps bending it has no temper and won't hold its position. I can feel it's going to break and the unused spring looks like twisted garbage as well

the top spring is the unused one, middle is the one that keeps folding and the bottom is a factory S&W 17rd spring

This is kind of a dumb question. But, did you install the locking plate and set screw in the base before loading the mag?

I did have it locked in place before loading the mag. I am waiting to hear back from Strike industries if they will replace the springs

Has to be a bad spring then, or something off with the pad itself that would cause the spring to do something weird.

I’m interested to hear what their response is. I was about to get a couple of these extensions for a 5” 2.0 I just got, then I saw your thread.

As soon as they reply I'll post what they say. I like the base pads but they need better springs.

Strike Industries sent me an email response. The reply pissed me off (said I clearly bent the spring and they will SELL me new ones) so I tried to call them and they don't take calls.

So I called Midwest Gunworks and they offered to take them back
