Concealed carry with gym shorts? Shield. Or carry a TCP?
I can’t decide on what to add to my carry license.
My shield and glock 29 are on there. I can add a 3rd. They would be a Glock 19 or a Taurus tcp. The tcp is pocket 6 round 380.
How do you guys carry a shield with gym shorts? Are there holsters that work? Really the only reason I’d keep the 380.
Also, I’m going to the range today but doubt I can pass the 5 7 and 10 yard test with the 380.

The TCP is a very good little gun, bought one for my wife to carry a number of years back. 5, 7, & 10 yards is no problem for her or myself with that little pistol.

I only pocket carry and rotate between a G43, Shield and a Kahr. Kahr is a wee bit bigger than Colt Mustang. G43 is light but feels top heavy. The Shield has GeePlates as sorta finger rests. Shield grip is the longest but balances nice. Only carry the 6 or 7 round flat baseplate mags in the pistol. I'm 6'1" 280 and wear gym shorts everywhere unless the boss makes me change into nicer shorts. They all carry nice, they all are accurate to 25 feet (and maybe beyond but I limit long shots) so take your pick. Good luck!
Edited to add my preference of Kramer pocket holsters for all pistols, no loose carry. And the shorts I wear are Adidas and have ample pocket space and yes you do have to tie the drawstring tight. Haven't had a problem in three years of everyday carry since I retired.

Gym shorts really limit size and weight of a pocket carry. Fabric not conducive to hiding firearm. Weight of gun in an elastic waist, even with a drawstring, must be minimal. My choice is a Ruger LCP II in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster.

I hate even having my iphone in my gym shorts pocket, couldnt imagine carrying in a pocket. I’d go with some sort of belly band to hold the holster, which probably has it’s own set of pros and cons.

Pistol Wear Trump Card lets me easily carry a gun the size of a Shield in that sort of getup. Did it for years.

The shorts aren’t the limiting factor, it’s your shirt.
I carry my Shield in a Kydex holster and one of those “tactical” belts; disappears under a loose T shirt regardless of what pants I’m wearing.

+1 on a belly band for use with gym shorts. Several manufacturers make them for runners, joggers...they are breathable and relatively comfortable. Most have a holster and mag pouch, and are easily covered by shorts and t-shirt.

Carrying a hand gun in gym shorts is an accident waiting to happen.
A really bad idea.

It must be a rough gym to need to be armed while working out.

I think you have options, but are limited to several modes of carry.
1. Fanny Pack
2. Belly Band
3. Shoulder Harness
4. Undergarments made for concealing a firearm.
(Bicycle Shorts Style / and or similar variations)
Ultimately, you will have to find what works best for you.
If you are wearing gym shorts for running, jogging, or any other dynamic movement, you should consider the proper holster or carry mode to keep the firearm stable, so that it's secure and there is no way that it will accidentally fall out. Also "Printing" can be an issue when wearing gym shorts. I am sure you will find the right attire that will meet your need.
Lastly, the TCP will be less cumbersome than the Shield.
Good luck with your test too.
Best,
Data

I think he is talking about the attire, not specifically about being at the gym. My gym is own by an ex-cop and she expects good guys to be armed, so that's not an issue to me. (I stopped going due to surgeries and use home gear now.)
I generally wear athletic pants with zipped pockets for exercise; I have no trouble at all carrying a G42 in a Mika pocket holster. Did so for some weeks even at work after a couple of my surgeries. If I am using a fanny pack, it tends to have a M296 and two speed loaders; I use that mostly when walking my dogs.
Putting aside the general rule that one cannot make an appointment for an emergency, and must thus be armed at all possible times, there are also the times before and after the gym for which we must allow, plus I HATE using car storage as it is simply not secure enough.

It's a tough day when a man can't be without his phone or his gun when he's working out!

I am on call and there are things that only I do. I have times when the phone is set to not disturb me (sleep), but there are people who can break through that; my wife, one colleague, and one client. It is not necessary that I am super smart, although that has been claimed by more than a few. It is that I am old and have thus seen a lot of weird things that don't come up often.

I never wear gym shorts because I like to carry a few things with me when I am out of the house.
Knife
Billfold
Fingernail Clippers
Comb
Car Keys
Gun
Phone
Plus a few other small things. Gym shorts will not stay up when I even tried to carry half of the above items.
Cargo shorts are the only shorts I ever wear. Have not owned a pair of gym shorts for 30 years. Never liked them anyway.

Wnen it's the lightest clothing in the summer, I choose the lightest carry pistol possible; the Kel-Tec P32 with a belt clip. 7+1 rounds of .32 ACP is all I need.

Get a small .22 LR revolver.
More effective than most people think, and nobody wants to get shot with anything.

Welcome back to the Forum, IrishPsych. It's a shame that you have to list on your CCW license which firearms you plan to carry...and that you're limited to 3! But that's just an unfortunate fact of where you live. Here in Florida, with the high heat and humidity most of the year, we tend to dress for the tropics...shorts, t-shirts, polo shirts, etc. I tend to carry lightweight firearms as comfortably as possible. For me it's usually a Model 642-2 or a PC Shield Plus 9mm in a pocket holster (leather or Sticky holster) in the front pocket of my shorts. I also carry a spare mag or TUFF quick strip in the other pocket with my knife. Several options out there for you to choose from. Good luck.

Thunderwear, smart carry, and I think a few other brand names with similar products will conceal and support much more than the micro autos.

I have used Thunderwear with gym shorts for over 15 years. But, I wear it at the 3 oclock position. Not 12 oclock.

LCP Max in an IWB holster with a monoblock metal clip. The monoblock clips on tight enough, even with no belt, there are no issues drawing or the holster coming off.
I'm not a fan of pocket carry, ever, and it keeps my pockets open for other things.

I am biased... but the choice of weapon is not your issue, method of carry is.. figure that out first then choose...

I have done the same exact thing for years. The setup works great in the winter with 'warmups'/'sweatpants.' Well, actually, my holster is a one of those small leather OWB holsters on the tactical belt. Just looked. My holster is a DeSantis for the Shield.

Well, I'd rather go unarmed than carry a gun over my ****-that is an accident waiting to happen with that single action pointed at Mr. Happy

At least a single action CAN be cocked and locked. Some of the striker fired piece, fully cocked and UNLOCKED scare the stuffing out of me🙄. Personally I still believe you never, ever, point a weapon at anything you’re not willing to shoot😳. You have an ND while reholstering in that position you’ll bleed out before you can get help even if you’re in the hospital parking lot. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Uh, no. I don't see any way that you can do serious exercise at the gym with a concealed firearm. Situps, bicycles? Really doubt that.
How about taking a shower? Don't want to expose the firearm and then lock it up in a cheesy gym locker.
If you feel a need to carry in a gym, time to find another gym. Don
