S&W M&P 2.0 10MM
Don't think I posted this before, if I did, my bad.
Think people might be interested in a comparison between the Ruger SR1911 in 10mm and the S&W M&P in 10mm.
The Ruger, with a 5" barrel delivered a velocity of 1493fps with Underwood's 155gr Hornady XTP bullet
The S&W with a 4.6" barrel produced 1499fps with the same ammo.
A 6fps edge for the S&W would be trivial if it too had a 5" barrel. So, it's a meaningful advantage for the 4.6" barrel but by no means a show stopper.
Sold the 1911. I like the S&W better and 15 +1 rd capacity beats 8 +1 anyday. Don

That is interesting. I wonder what would account for that? Chamber tightness? Bullet diameter more closely matched to barrel diameter in the M&P? I’ve got the 4.6” also and really like it. I’m thinking of taking advantage of the rebate that ends Sunday and pick up a 4”.

Interesting for sure. I recently purchased a S&W M&P M2.0 10mm. Really like it but only put 50 rounds through it so far. I did have 3-4 FTF issues with it so the jury is still out on it. Will shoot it more next week with different ammo and see how it does.

Thanks for the report. How has the reliability been with the M&P?

I don't know, would probably need a degreed corporate engineer to be definitive. In my opinion, you mentioned two possibilities, a third might be smoother grooves and lands. Don

Initially it was completely reliable with lighter bullet weights but had some issues with Underwood 200 & 220gr hard cast.
I put some stronger mag springs in 2 of my 3 magazines and it has been functioning properly with the heavy Underwoods. So breaking in? Don

I'm not sure. I guess that's the million dollar question.

Where are stronger mag springs coming from? I have a 4.6 with safety.

I picked up an M&P 10mm 2.0 (4.6") last Sept. for my birthday, and have been extremely happy with it. I haven't experienced any of the F2F or unplanned mag drop issues that some others have written about, but then again I do not shoot heavy cast bullets or super high energy rounds. I have three 17-rd magazines and they have all performed flawlessly with over 700 rounds shot downrange. We don't have huge grizzly bears down here in Florida, but there are black bears, big gators, and some monster wild hogs in the wilds. Luckily I haven't had to defend myself against any of those animals, but I know that the 10mm would be up to the task if needed. It's also a personal defense pistol for home and travel, and I'm comfortable with the 10mm in that role, too.

What grain rounds have you been firing thru your 10mm? I'm also in Central FL and thinking about picking up the 4 Compact M&P 2.0 10mm for both two and four legged encounters.

Mostly Federal and Winchester 180g FMJs for range and plinking, and SIG Sauer 180g Elite V-Crown JHPs for threats.

Which Holosun model did you put on your 10?

See the pic above. It's a Holosun 507C, and I installed it using the S&W Plate #1 with the long screws supplied by Holosun and fresh blue Loctite.

Before I sold my quadrunner, I experimented with carrying a 1911 (Kimber Eclipse .45 ACP) cocked and locked in a Milt Sparks Summer Special with an empty chamber under the hammer.
After about half a day of riding I checked and the hammer was still cocked but the safety had worked itself off!
So I sold that and bought a Glock 20 in 10mm.
I cut the grip down to Glock 29 length for better concealment so I wouldn't leave the gun in the truck if I decided to go into Safeway for groceries.
The gun could still use the original 15 round magazine as a reliable backup mag. and all was going well, until I sold the quad and had to pack that cinder block on my hip in the woods all day.
So I sold the G20, (big mistake) but I still had a jar of about 1000 reload bullets and still had the reload dies that also work for .40 S&W, so I got a .40 Shield.
Much lighter to pack around but I went from being prepared for Bigfoot to being nervous around pine squirrels.
Also interested in a S&W M&P 10 reliability report just in case I decide to get off of my fat bottom and get back in shape... yea right.

BRL40: Just scroll down through this section of the Forum ("S&W M&P Pistols") and you'll find a bunch of Posts concerning the M&P 10mm 2.0. Comments range from one end of the reliability spectrum to the other, so you'll have to draw your own conclusions. Personally, I've owned and shot my 10mm (4.6" bbl) for over 6 months and have had absolutely no issues. I've found it totally reliable and fun to shoot, and the 15-round magazines provide a lot of available ammo and plenty of punch.

I have spent the last few days reading up here and watching Youtube videos regarding the M&P 10mm 2.0 and it's reliability with certain loads. Being in the market for a 10mm and leaning towards a Glock 29 as I may carry the 10mm for certain occasions, I went to my LGS and was able to handle and compare the 4" M&P with both a G20 and G29. I will be adding the M&P 10mm 2.0 4 inch to my collection tomorrow.

I've owned both the G20 and the G29, and I can say that the G29 is one snappy little powerhouse!
Looking forward to a range report on the M&P 4".
Early congrats.

Picked up my M&P 2.0 10mm Compact last week.
Also, have some Hornady XTP 180 gr and Underwood 200 gr Flat Nose Cherry Coated on the way.
Need to cycle thru some rounds at the range as I have a June trip to Alaska coming up and will be taking this w/the Underwood loads with me. Not hunting....but I don't want to be prey as we are out and about.

I'm sure that you know not to depend upon a firearm until you're positive it's dependable, especially for CCW or when heading into the wilds. Make sure that you cycle a bunch of those big Underwood defensive rounds thru your 10mm. There have been comments about F2F and unintended mag release issues with some of those cartridges, so be sure that your 10mm digests them without any problems! My 10mm has performed flawlessly, and I'm sure that you will be very happy with yours. Enjoy!

Yes - will do. I've read the same.
Watching Hickok45 on YT gave me the push to go get one of my own. He ran a slew of different loads through his and didn't have an issue. He also bought one for his own stable.

I recently bought the 4.6” model. First time out I had 4-5 F2F issues shooting Remington 180gr fmj. Only shot 50 rounds that day. Gun was disassembled and cleaned priot to shooting it. As others have done I replaced the stock 17# recoil spring and guide rod with a 22# Galloway Precision spring and guide rod.
Yesterday I shot 50 Blazer Brass 180gr fmj and 50 Sig 180gr fmj’s. No F2F issues but did have the last round in the mag pop out with the spent cartridge before it 2x. Once with each brand of ammo. I also shot 50 rounds of the Remingtons this time with zero issues. The last 15 rounds of the Remingtons were a mag dump just to see how it functioned which was perfect.
I am now considering upgrading the magazine springs to see how it functions after that.

I got the 4" M&P 10mm a couple of months ago and am thrilled with it! Fits my hand perfect, great controls, sights, reliability, trigger, accuracy, and pretty soft shooting. When a gun fits your hand great and has excellent sights and trigger you might be surprised how well you shoot.

I'm new to the forum. I have an M&P 2.0 10mm 4" and wanted to see if you guys have a recommendation for a holster? The sights are quite tall and I need to find another option.
Thanks
