I have a regular Metal and yes. In theory it will not diminish the ability of the red dot. When training with it we had to put tape over the lens and could still use the dot.

Minor inconvenience.

Yes.. one of the things I hate about that LCI... it need to be eliminated. There is an optic plate with a high face that does a pretty good job of reducing the crud.

I haven't put a red dot on my Competitor so I haven't experienced what you have, but I do have a Springfield Armory Prodigy that has that has the loaded chamber indicator.

It is probably the most frustrating feature of that pistol. After 50 or 60 rounds you are aiming through a lens almost totally obscured with all sorts of debris and must be cleaned to really see through. It's like looking out of a window on a foggy day with a huge red light off in the distance.

I just don't understand the need for the LCI. It's really too small to be able to be used to verify that there is a round in the chamber in most cases. IMO it should be eliminated.

There are gun shops that for about $50 will weld the hole shut and buff the area off so that you can't even see that there ever was a hole there. I have considered having that done to mine.

Competitor , metal or one of the many of polymer model all will black in your lens . By your self a Lens Pen for basic dust off cleaning and catch up with it after a round of match play or range day with a lens cleaner spray and microfiber towel . I been doing this for 11 years with an old match use and now fun gun m&p core . I did change the dot optic from a RM02 to a holosun green circle dot .

I think that almost all of the M&P pistol versions (including my 10mm 2.0) will dirty up an RDO lens, but it's usually just a minor inconvenience and can easily be cleaned. I had the same issue with both the stock S&W plastic mounting plate and with the C&H metal mounting plate that I replaced it with. As Ethang mentioned, if it really bothers you there is a mounting plate that will deflect the blowback residue- but I can't remember the manufacturer.

I have the same problem on my OR Compact but decided cleaning the optic as a part of my normal gun cleaning after a range trip made more sense. But I did save a link to the plate when I saw it mentioned here. It is made by a company called Calculated Kinetics. Never bought the plate so I cannot comment on how well it works.

It works great. All the blowback is deposited on the plate instead of the lens. CK says it stops 80% of blowback, but IME it stops 100% of it. After my last range trip of 200 rounds, I wiped the lense and nothing came off.

Yes it does..only problem was it was too thick for a Safariland duty holster.

I just wipe the glass when I leave the range. Also, the glass collects dust just from carrying. I wipe the glass every morning with a microfiber before I holster up.
