New Shield Plus Owner
I have been a Glock guy most of my adult life since it was my duty weapon and I was very comfortable with it. I have a Smith 626 which I love but don’t shoot too often. Over the last few years I began experimenting with different firearms. I really love my Walther PDP and the FN 509 but find myself carrying a pocket size pistol most of the time. I have a P365 and it’s ok, I just don’t trust Sig after having problems with a P320. I purchased an FN Reflex and it’s ok but not the greatest. I really like my Walther PPS M2. It feels right, shoots great…but…7+1 is not ideal but I would trust my life with it. I just purchased a Shield Plus and ran about 250 rounds of FMJ and JHP and have to say I am VERY impressed. It feels and shoots like the Walther but with that extra capacity. I found my new EDC!! Now I got the Smith bug and am looking at the M&P 2.0 3.6 barrel compact. I am just trying to convince myself that I need another pistol. I’ll probably be selling the Reflex. Anyway, thanks Smith and Wesson for a great little gun.

Enjoy your Shield Plus! I've enjoyed my M&Ps for a long time now.

I am a Glock guy and love them, and for my smallest off-duty gun I was running a G26 with Tru-Glo TFOs. I won some matches in GSSF with this and loved it. I had my wife in one also. A while later I decided I needed a single-column 9mm for every better concealed carry. I was split between the G43 (which I'd owned and sold) and the then-new Walther single column 9mm. My buddy working in the store suggested the original Shield and pushed one across the case. I told him I didn't need to even pick it up, as I had bad experiences with early M&Ps and I assumed those were of the same vein. My buddy promised me they were not just a shrunken M&P, and said he was carrying one (Shield) . I tried the trigger and loved it. Based on my buddy's advice and urging (he is one of my oldest "gun" buddies, and is one of the most knowledgeable I know; also career cop/gunfight veteran/firearms instructor) I bought the Shield. As a Glock guy, I was embarrassed that the gun felt so good and shot so well.
My wife tried it also and shot it WAY better than her G26. We went the next week and traded her G26 for ANOTHER Shield. I eventually went to a G43X and "gave" my Shield to my wife, so we have one in the bedroom and one of the kitchen (so, one on either side of the house).
Last November, I decided to get her a Shield Plus. I picked one up at a steal from my local pawn shop/FFL. We made like SIX range attempts in December and January, and got rained out or had other stuff come up every time. As soon as she shoots it and I see that it will fire at least 50 rounds we will add that one to the rotation.

The older I get the smaller & lighter my EDC is, so it’s a 340PD.

Welcome to the Forum, and it's great to see a Glock guy converted to S&W! LOL! I had a PC M&P Shield 9mm for a couple of years as one of my EDCs, and it was outstanding. However, I liked the idea of having some additional rounds in the mag so I traded that Shield in for a PC Shield Plus 9mm. Wow, what a great pistol! Although it's a snubby, it shoots like a much larger pistol. I've never had a F2F or other issue with the PC Shield Plus. It's an EDC in either a pocket holster or AIWB holster. My only complaint is the small thumb safety, but I'm about to remedy that with the purchase of a wider thumb safety. Enjoy!

Yep. While I prefer 9mm (and loved my Shield Plus), I must admit the new Bodyguard 2.0 .380 is now my casual EDC.

I don’t think I am converted yet…lol…but I really do like this Shield Plus. Glock really missed the boat on this. The 43X is too big to pocket carry. I am now looking at the M&P Compact w/ 3.6 barrel.

Great pistols. Do what I did and get the whole family! That way you'll have the right tool for the right job.

I'm an old time 1911 guy, have a couple Glocks, had a number of S&W 3rd gens and a few M&Ps. The Shield Plus (optic cut, night sights) is an outstanding edc and is mine during the warm/hotter months. I just ordered one of the extended thumb safeties that's been posted about on here and then it'll be perfect .

Where can you buy a larger safety for the Shield?

I posted this in a couple of other threads (e.g. Wider Safety lever", etc.). You can contact Brian Beard at:

I just ordered one of his thumb safeties for my PC Shield Plus. Not cheap (~$70), but very nicely made and relatively easy to install. There are YouTube videos that show the DIY R&R. And no, I am in no way affiliated with Brian or the sale of the safeties. I just think it's a great upgrade to a great pistol!

^^ That’s the one I just ordered. Sent the funds out today. Brian certainly seems like a good guy, I’ll post when I get it though due to carpal tunnel surgery tomorrow I won’t be shooting for a month or so.

Looks great. Might have to look into one. Thanks!
I don’t know if you’ve ever handled a larger size M&P pistol with a safety, but the safeties on those are pretty loose. The little safety on the Shield is very positive. No worries of them coming off or on easily. They require deliberate action. Any issues with that with the larger Shield safety?

I just ordered my M&P Compact 3.6. Looking forward to taking it to the range.
Now, where can I purchase spare parts? I would like to buy a striker, recoil spring, extractor and springs. I cant find them anywhere.

You will enjoy shooting this pistol. Put the magazine sleeves on and appreciate the extra capacity and more stabilized grip. Using the 17rnd mag adds increased stability although I carry with the 15 rnd the majority of carry.
