Front dovetail cut is a proprietary cut, keep this in mind. Today I bought a Bodyguard 2.0 and went to the range after. First shot was dead bullseye at 7 yards. After that though, I had shots left, right, off paper and all. After ~40 rounds my front sight fell off. The front sight can now slipped in and out of the dovetail on both sides with extreme ease. There also seems to be a common issue where the front sights are pushed off center to the left. It seems fishy.. almost like the Truglo sights were just not cut right for the proprietary dovetail and S&W decided to not reorder correct sights due to the hype and delay that would cause and just pressed them in further to the left so they’d be somewhat tight, because if they were pressed to center, they would never hold. Don’t buy until fixed.

Update: 11/14- new sight ordered from S&W on 10/28. The new sight has not even been shipped yet! Not only is the QC lacking but the parts department is in absolute shambles. Do not buy assuming you can get a part in for replacement if needed. Couldn’t imagine actually sending in the firearm for work. That could reasonably take 6mos-1yr given their ship time for what should be one of the smallest (easiest to ship) and most stocked item (simple front sight).

Funny, I have read many posts on the BG2 on the forum, and yours is the first I recall seeing that said the front sight dovetail allowed the sight to simply "fall off". If you were getting erratic hits left and right while shooting why didn't you check the sights to try to understand why before this happened.

Mentioning an experienced problem in a first post is common, expected and understandable. Making comments about the problem you had being "common", or advising others to not buy the model and basically "flaming" the model is not. Did it occur to you the issue could be with the sight and not the dovetail in the slide?

I mentioned that the dovetail is proprietary to explain that the sights had to be special made for this particular firearm. I also explained that it’s likely that the sights are off due to TruGlo not manufacturing them to fit as tight as they require. This isn’t the only forum btw, there’s Reddit, YouTube comments and all and it’s a common complaint that these models shoot left. I don’t know what you find acceptable in a firearm for carry but I’d tell anyone who asks about this model to steer clear simply to the fact that I had a front sight fall off after 40 rounds. I think it’s best to consider people’s purpose with these first before considering your loyalty to a particular brand, which is to defend themselves and their families. Also “flaming” the model due to a FACTORY INSTALLED SIGHT ISSUE is completely reasonable given the purpose of these firearms..?

I wanted a better front sight, but the closest I could find was the Tru-Glo made for the EZ9. Not sloppy but could also slip in with thumb push. I used Permatex Orange Threadlocker to hold it and it's in to stay unless driven out. The rear sight is the same as the original Bodyguard, so that one had to be fitted.

I don't follow that many forums, but a guarantee there are a lot of people complaining that a pistol like a bodyguard shoots left (and probably low and left).

The sights might even be responsible for a couple of those.

Have you contacted customer service?

I had issue with my sights, similar to others and did contact customer service. While discussing my issue, I mentioned that problems with the sights seem to be common, based on multi reviews and forums I saw. In short the agent I spoke with was dismissive of my impression that the sights were a common problem, saying something to the effect that the occasional person with that problem broadcasts a lot about it.

Minus the sights issue, I am pleased with my Bodyguard 2 that has no failure to fire after nearly 500 rounds. Though not a gun expert like many of you on this forum, I feel that a new gun just out of the box should not require as much adjustment as seems necessary on this particular model. I purchased this gun for the purpose of concealed self defense and can not carry it with confidence until I get mine back from the gunsmith (I am no expert in that either) and the gun has reasonable and predictable accuracy at 5 to 7 yards.

With everything thing that has happened, gun shoots to the left until front sight is drifted, rear sight notch too wide, recoil spring and guide rod problems, etc., etc., I suspect that all the problems will be solved in 2025 IF S&W pays attention to this Forum. I have no idea whether or not they do.

It would be great if everyone who has had significant problems with the BG 2.0 would write to the S&W CEO and ask for the problems to be investigated. Maybe that's asking too much. A short letter detailing what problems have been encountered - not an angry letter - but one that urges them to review their quality controls and asks to issue parts that need to be corrected would take a mere 10 minutes to write.

Maybe that's asking too much of us if we just sit around and complain to each other. I don't know, but my courteous letter went out a few days ago.

I looked at a new Bodyguard 2.0 in a glass case in a large box sporting goods store yesterday. Looking down on it plain as day, the area on the slide under the front sight was twice as large on the right side (when facing the gun) than it was on the left side of the sight. No exaggeration it was that obvious. How that can leave the factory in that condition is beyond me. I own a BG 2.0 that came with the sights lined up correctly and shoots POA given what the pistol is intended for. Any low and left shots are on me due to grip or trigger finger placement.

Agree 99% of shooting left is operator error even with experienced shooters. My front was sight was left of center when I purchased gun, I moved to center, gun shot dead straight from bench rest. At my LGS yesterday, they had a new BG 2.0 with front sight left of center, rear right of center, crazy!
