I've been "contemplating" an Equalizer since early summer. I read on line reviews which were overall positive.

I'm not a big fan of striker fired gun and had an early M&P9c which I wasn't over fond of and sold to fund a 6906.

At some point I was going to look around for a used one, but people don't seem to be selling them, which I took as a good sign.

Earlier this week while looking for used Equalizers in gun stores, I went to Range USA. They didn't have any used ones, but they had a promotion on an Equalizer with five magazines, an UpLula magazine loader, and carrying case for $529.00.

Hmmmm. That's a good price for all of that considering what Shield magazines go for and what an UpLula goes for.

Still, I didn't want to guy without putting some rounds down range, so I figured I'd go back Thursday or Friday. That didn't happen, but what did happen was that the price dropped to $489.00 for the same package.

So, I went today and put 100 rounds through their rental gun and liked it.

So, here I am actually buying a new gun for the first time in, well in more than a few years.

The only thing I'm not crazy about is that it has no magazine safety, but I have a Mossberg that also doesn't have a magazine safety. This might even replace the Mossberg as my travel gun.

It's an individual thing, I think. I'm used to the 3rd Gens, all of mine of which have it. I know that some were made with the mechanism removed.

It's sort of like Ford versus Chevy, 9mm versus 45ACP, and flour versus corn Tacos. ;)

I think I should keep track of gun forum folks who LIKE and WANT a magazine disconnect safety.

To the OP - you got a great price at $489. I saw the S&W ad for that package (Range Kit SKU 14346) with a MSRP of $599.

I bought my Equalizer back in Jan '23 for $499 - it only came with three mags (10, 13, 15 and an Uplula), SKU 13592.

I think you'll like, it's a good shooter, even better with an optic.

I liked the rental I shot before I made up my mind. Although it needed a thorough cleaning. Which speaks well to reliability of the gun.

I saw some at recent gun shows for around $475.00. I don't know what they included since i didn't ask.

I have to clean and lube it then take it to my gun club for a thorough wring out.

I personally don't see any real purpose behind a magazine disconnect, when I was chasing an issue with my HP clone I pulled the magazine disconnect out. If you feel that feature has value than who am I to judge, somebody thought it was a good idea or it wouldn't be there.

I have never been a fan and have them removed from both BHP's that I own.The feature renders the firearm useless while conducting a mag change or if the mag is released during a struggle or a dropped mag. It's much like not carrying with a chambered round or carrying a 1911 or a BHP in anything other than condition 1.

I finally got my new gun to the range. Results were not as good as I hoped, but I don't think it was the gun.

The grip was comfortable, the trigger is fine (I prefer curved triggers), but the accuracy was not as good as with my 3913TSW or 5946.

I used 124gr FMJ for the try out, and even though I'm not a huge fan of 115gr, that will be my next experiment. Of course my feelings about 115gr are based on my experience with 3rd Gen 9mms which in my case perform much better than 115gr.
