Magpul PRS

REALLY? [not]

Is it that difficult to obtain the proper spacer? Really?

 What is 'difficult' about a stack of quarters other than the cost ($) which I have not calculated. Then, of course, there is always Ma's wooden broomstick handle that I'm sure she would scarcely miss a two-inch nip off..

You are welcome Benandjoesdad..

OK, I've never converted an M&P10. However, I got the Magpul PRS and an A2 buffer tube, buffer and spring. Mine works, but does have a Type II malfunction now and then. I suspect that if I lighten the spring a little that will quit.

Not that's wot I'm talk'in bout, rite thar! Use the standard AR rifle tube and, wait! Will PVC work? Just say'n.

Keep your lengths correct or you are gonna have a lot of measures and math to do.

I think someone said the factory spacer measured 1.950in or so, I could be off a bit, but you get the picture.

Sure it would!

In the correct diameter I'll bet it would... PVC pipe would probably 'tamp' down with use (probably soon) and go kaput ;)

..I'd use the end off U-NO-WHOS broomstick first :D:D:D

Buy the spacer from S&W.
Install the parts.

KentB, What hand guard is that? That's a great looking rifle you have.

somebody please let me know what spacer it is that im supposed to get. im wanting to put the magpul prs stock on mine and I cant decipher anything out of all the threads and comments. I just need to know what to buy. thanks

I'm looking into a Gen3 PRS. Cabelas sight says, " Installs on rifle-length, mil-spec carbine and A5-length buffer tubes". So my question is do I need to buy a different tube? I know I need to order the spacer from Smith & Wesson.

The new gen 3 PRS will work on your m&p 10 stock tube. I asked magpul. How do you know you need a spacer? I didnt ask about that, but i assumed i wouldnt need anything else.

I've seen a few posts and a youtube video that talked about a spacer. Maybe that was just for the older models. I guess I'll grab a gen 3 and see what's what.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be a gap. It's not a load bearing surface, but I still don't think it should be there.

It has been awhile since I had a PRS stock but you don't use the carbine buffer tube castle nut and spacer with a PRS stock. Rifle length buffer tube has a collar on the front that is screwed up tight against the lower. There is a screw on the back of the rifle buffer tube to hold the stock tight to the buffer tube. Front of PRS stock is flush fit with the lower like a fixed A2 or A1 rifle stock. You might need a plastic spacer and longer screw with the PRS if you are using a A2 rifle buffer tube as it is shorter than a A1 buffer tube.

Picture of a Luth AR stock that is like a PRS stock with the same adjustments but is about half the price and much lighter weight.

And there is a newish Luth AR MBA-3 that fits a carbine tube FWIW. Its what I use on my AR-15.

I bring that up only because it is similar to the Magpul PRS, but costs half as much. I got mine for $100 shipped. Luth was founded by the founder of DPMS, before they got bought out. He is an industrial engineer by trade, and designs great stuff.

Buffer failure on Magpul PRS kit.

I installed a PRS MAG308 buttstock and the Ultimate Arms Gear USA Made .308/A2-Kit on my S&W M&P 10 and after 13 rounds the threaded plug blew out of the bottom of the buffer and lodged into my bolt carrier. Beware of buying buffer kits supplied by Tactical Military Gear and Ultimate Arms Gear, the quality is obviously suspect and the ability to receive a refund or replacement is nonexistent.
