I've just completed my second AR build, an "old school" M4 with plastic hand guards and a detachable handle/sight.

I would like to mount a scope on the receiver rail and would like advice on mounts. What "height" would you recommend?

Are there any issues with the non removable front sight? Will it not be a problem?

Here is the rifle:

Any help will be appreciated.

There are a number of mounts or very high rings (1.4 inch to center) that will work. Keep in mind the action rail is a Picatinny profile. I've got a thing for the Smith Enterprises products, they generally are 30 mm rings with reducers to 1 inch included.

Don't worry about the front sight. Keeping it gives you a sight for quick and dirty close range work.
