New to the AR scene, I just purchased an MP-15A. I know the MP-15OR means optics ready. What does the A stand for?

I also just purchased an NcStar Mark 3 scope. I didn't go for a Trijicon, Aimpoint, or EOtech because I didn't want to spend that much money.

Would it make sense to remove the front and rear iron sites completely and only use the scope? It seems like most people who don't the OR model leave the sites on. Is there a a reason to leave them on?

If your target shooting, you probably dont need your irons. Worst thing is a wasted range trip if something goes wrong. On a defensive rifle most people like the irons as backup. Scopes can fail {rarely if its quality}, batteries can die. Irons are always there.

I think the "A" in the MP15A just indicates that it is a flat top M4 style profile rifle with a fixed m4 type front sight and a folding rear sight as opposed to the standard MP15 which appears to come with a detachable carry handle for the rear sight fixture.
