any good .22LR coversion kit for M&P15 sport?

hi guys,

I just bought a M&P15sport. I was looking to buy a .22LR conversion kit for practice at range considering the ammo price diff. I emailed the S&W customer service, they told me the M&P15 sport isnt compatible with any conversion kit out there. I saw few posts here and there about ppl using a conversion kit on their M&P15 sport. So if you use the conversion kit and its working for you, please let me know what brand you use. Thanks

Hmmmmm. It's a standard AR lower. I see CMMG most often and see no reason it wouldn't work. Or, for $425 or so, you can get a M&P15-22 and have a dedicated .22 based on the AR platform.
 
I'm using the CMMG conversion kit in my Sport and it works just fine. I have the stainless conversion kit and it cleans up very easily. I use CCI Mini Mag 22 ammo in mine and get maybe 1 dud in every 200 rds fired, usually the primer is struck hard enough but doesn't go boom. Not bad for 22 ammo. After every 300 or so rounds of 22, I fire 3 or 4 5.56 rounds to blow the crud out.
 
Any of the conversion kits that work in a standard AR will work in the Sport. S&W gave you a lawyer answer, because they are not going to provide support for the conversion kit, nor take any responsibility for any damage to you, your rifle, or bystanders if something were to go wrong.

My vote for the best answer.

I *love* my M&P 15-22. I don't like the idea of taking my guns apart and swapping stuff around. So I don't use .22 conversion kits on my 1911's either.
 
I know it cost more but a dedicated, .22 upper would be the best option, outside of an M&P 15/22 IMHO.

OR a Marlin Model 60 for about the same cost as the conversion kit. I dunno just thought I would throw that out there.

+1 on the Model 60 I have an ATI fiborforce stock on mine fun gun to shoot and I get just as many complemts on it as the 15/22

I have the same stock and absolutely love it plus you just cant beat the micro-groove barrel

I agree. I would hate to have to rezero my iron sights each time I swap from 5.56 to .22lr

+3 for getting a S&W M&P 15-22. I actually got that first, then just got my Sport the other day. Amazing how great a job S&W did making all the "controls" the same for both guns. The 15-22 is a hoot to shoot and has lots of rail space for sights or optics. Great for kids also because it is ultra light and you can set the stock length to their frame as they grow.

OP, the CMMG conversion kit is hit-or miss with folks. It works well in some rifles, so-so in some rifles, and not good in others. The only way you'll know is to try it out.

Don't expect it to perform beyond what it is: shooting 36gr - 40gr .22lr out of a barrel meant for a .223/5.56. Expect to have to readjust your sights when moving from caliber to caliber.

The sight readjustment is the only real complaint my friend has with a CMMG .22lr kit dropped into his Bushmaster.

Some also say that the .22lr fouling can get into the gas tube. All my buddy ever does is drop in his AR bolt and pop off a few .223 or 5.56 to burn off and/or blow away the .22lr crud.

Check with Tactical Solutions they manufacture a quality 22LR upper for the AR-15 platform. They will know if their unit works with your M&P15 Sport.
