Default M&P 15 model 811008

I have this model that comes with a quad rail.
AR's are new to me so i am not sure of the fitment.

I'm guessing this type of fore grip is not a "floating" since it has a retainer to capture the front end of the rails., is that correct?

My main question though is it normal for this rail to be loose?

I can twist the rail back and forth almost an 1/8". The bottom section also moves with in the top piece.

Obviously a add on front rail site would be useless.

Comments?

This is the rifle:
Product: Model M&P15X Rifle

Does it rattle or do you really have to torque it? I have heard some of the 15X owners say that the handguard has some 'play' in it. I don't know what S&W can or will do if you send it back, but if it really bothers you, you can always call 'em and see, or get another drop-in handgaurd.

Or perhaps another delta ring assembly?

Are you sure it's the handguard or is it play between the upper and lower?

did you check for screws on the handguard. If I remember correctly that is a troy drop in quad rail that has screws to hold it in place. I don't have any hands on experience with the troy handguard, just know that it does have screws. If it were me I would check that out first before returning my rifle to have checked out.

I did install (for a very short time) a quad rail. It had no screws and fit my rifle perfectly and did not budge once installed (MI Gen2 drop in). So I would hope the screws are there to insure a tight fit. Troy does make quality products.

I have that same rifle. sorry to have to tell you that it is what it is. delta ring holds the QR so it's going to have some play. I never was happy with it till I switched it to a ff qr by Troy Indus. it took a little work but i love my pretty black gun
