I am looking for a Handguard to finish up my .204 Ruger upper. I have handled a lot of Handguards in the last few days and some good and some not so good.

The most appealing to me until yesterday was a 15" (14.815") Fortis REV 14. I tried a Diamondhead VRS "T" at a LGS and really liked the way it felt. The cross section is smooth on the bottom with finger grooves and the cross section is triangular.

Fortis uses a standard barrel nut the DH uses a proprietary nut (changing the barrel nut is not a big deal). Both cover the gas block and have a contiguous top rail.

Any experience with either handguard?

I have a Diamondhead VRS-T 13.5", and aside from being a touch on the heavy side, it is a superb rail. Extremely ergonomic, modular bolt-on rail sections, and aesthetically pleasing. Plus, the price wasn't bad at $170.

Thanks for the feedback, this aligns with what I think also. First of all the DH Rail looks good and feels good. No sharp edges or cheese grater corners.

It does feel heavier than some other handguards but this is less of an issue here because this is going around a barrel that is 23" long and 7/8" Diameter at the muzzle. The weight of the guard is not a big deal. I am not fond of the proprietary nut but it fits standard 1-1/4" wrench and seems to do the job. I am also not interested in hanging lasers, flashlights, auxillary sights, bottle openers or can openers on the front.

Primary Arms has the rails at a discounted price and the service from them has always been excellant. I think that I will go ahead and order the 15" rail.

I echo these comments, the 13.5" rail will cover a low profile gas block on a rifle-length gas system.

its funny I was going through the same predicament when I was looking for a replacement. I ended up with the diamondhead and glad I did. My buddy bought the Fortis Rev and the diamondhead feels more comfortable in hand. The Fortis rev though does IMO look more aggressive.

heres a pic of mine:
