Would like to replace the factory triangle front sight/gas block with a railed gas block and flip up front sight.

Can anyone recommend a combination of gas block and flip-up front sight that will index with the existing rear sight (Magpul Folding MBUS)? I cannot find dimensions on any of these components to be able to do it without a lot of trial and error. Was hoping someone has figured it out and is willing to pass the info on.

Thanks

^ You can call the guys at YHM and explain what you want to do. Write down the name of the individual you talked to. Tell them you want a gas block with rails at the same plane as the flat top on the receiver. If they advise you wrong and you don't get the right part, you have justification for a return and don't get boned. I'd rather get the information from a credible, identifiable source than some random screen name on an internet forum.

Curious as to why you would want to do that? You have a solid FSB up front.

As for a replacement, you'll just need to get a railed gas block and then find a "gas block" height front BUIS. The size is pretty standard unless you find a gas block that is "rail height". If you find one that is "rail height" (like the M&P OR), then a standard BUIS is what you want to run.

It's not really a matter of matching them up to work together as these standards have been adopted.

I want to be able to mount optics low without seeing the front sight.

I would go with a gas block that has a rail, and then magpul mbus folding sights. I'm actually in the process of removing my front sight so I can put a gas block on. I am just waiting for my taper pin punch and a sight removal block from Brownells. They are kind of a must if you want to start building and customizing this type of hardware, but it is not necessary for a 1 time thing. But that's going into a whole new topic. Just make sure you get the right size gas block. I believe in is .750, but not 100% sure (use calipers to get an exact endearment). Most brands will be good quality. Its hard to screw up a milled out piece of metal. Try not to go the import route.

The Magpul MBUS sights are not recommended to be put on a railed gas block. They are damaged by the heat and can become brittle or in extreme cases, melt.

"NOTE: Cannot be mounted to a railed gas block due to excess heat issues.
Front MBUS must be mounted to a railed fore end on the same plane as the receiver rail. Because of this the sight is also not compatible with MOE Hand Guards"

M&P railed gas block

My M&P AR came with a picatinny rail on top of the gas block
Nice I really like it but the bottom side of the gas block has a .380 hole with an inturnel groove in it
I would think its for a bypod or maybe a sling mount
But I have looked and looked for anything that fits there
Does anyone know where I can find both the bypod and sling mount for this gas block hole?
I'm sure it's out there I just haven't found it
Thanks in advance for any help
