Got my new M&P MOE and LOVE it:)
Question now is what are other users that have them opinions of them. They look fine but I just have a hard time trusting polymer sights versus metal backup sights. I know Kitup did a story on them with drop tests. But are they somehting you can bet your life on in bad times and your optic doesnt work?

Has anyone seen them come loose after extended usage? Also in the MBUS instructions that came with the rifle nothing says how tight to torque them to. It just says handtight, well that leaves a lot to imagination. Should I loctite them?

Glad to hear you like your new MOE!

The rear Magpul MBUS sight is OK. IMO, it's a good backup sight. If you're going to run an optic on the rail, then the polymer MBUS will do it's job in a pinch. Just do as the instructions state, and just hand tighten them don't crank down on them. The threads on the screws should already have some locktite applied to them.

Magpul ships the MBUS with Loctite already applied to the threads of the retention screw. There is no need to remove the screw and apply Loctite since that was done at the factory install.

The MBUS works fine for me. This is from 100 yds after zeroing the stock sights on my MOE Mid. I really don't think a different rear sight would make much difference.

FYI - The front post elevation on my MOE Mid was perfect out of the box for a 100 yd zero. The MBUS rear sight required 4 clicks left to zero.

Congrats and enjoy your new MOE Mid!

Magpul does have a trusted name and they hold up very well. Use the Blue Lock-tite,don't crank em down hard-hard and NEVER mount the polymer ones on the front gasblock.

Thanks all, I went out on Monday to shoot the new MOE. LOVE IT. It was shooting a quarter size group. Only was able to do 25 meter zero due to winds starting up. Had to take it 3 clicks to left also, vertical was good to go. Strange having the same adj to zero.

Took my sport out yesterday for first time. I was able to put 67% of my shots into a four inch square at 100 yards...I am good with that since I hadn't used a peep in over 20 years. One of the guys at the range created some doubt though, suggested I get a metal rear sight by Troy. He said you get a crisper view of the front sight and target. What do you all think of that?

i doubt metal would matter at all - now that sight could have a more appropriate sized hole but I doubt that as well. it could also have finer adjustments & in a way that could hep but I doubt if anything more that 1/4 minute clicks would matter much for for backup sights

Thanks for the response Steve, I should have stated I will only be using peeps with my sport...does anyone feel it's worth it to upgrade(or is it an upgrade) to install Troy sights?

If you are going to use open sights only, I would replace the Magpul sights, but not with another set of back up sights.

I would put a carry handle on the rifle, or use an A2 carry handle style rear sight.

I like the look of a carry handle, my buddy will bring his Colt to the range this weekend so I can look through his handle sights.

For those looking for a rear sight like that LMT, might suggest to put a WTB ad in the 1522 section. The factory rear sight on my 1522 is quite good. There's got to be a million of them in parts boxes swapped out for lighter plastic MBUS with the 1522.

One of the advantages to that type of sight system is that once you sight it in, you can use the elevation drum on the rear sight to adjust elevation for known distances.

Good point Phil. I traded a set of Magpul MBUS with my son for his sights off of his 15-22. I run them on my dedicated .22lr upper.

You can also buy a carry handle and cut it down so that it resembles the LMT sight, if you don't like the full carry handle.

Here it is installed. Product codes on the plastic bag it came in suggest it was made by LMT.

Looks good - I have a no-name on my 15-22, but if I ever put one on my AR I would definitely spend the bucks for a Colt or similar...

I've replaced the Magpul with a LMT. Works great. I found one NIB on eBay for half of the new price.

If I recall correctly many of the early Sports came with LMTs. I believe that changed about the time the barrel twist changed. As many Sport owners add optics, the change to a MBUS made sense for S&W. Saved them probably $30 per Sport

The first generation Sports did come with the LMT style sight. Then they changed to the Magpul sight, but the barrel was still the same 1:8 twist. This is the model I have. Probably was a cost cutting measure.

Then came the change to the 1:9 twist barrel.

Not likely. The holes cut in the polymer are clean holes, so there is no fuzzy on the edge of the ring. They are very durable, as has been stated. If there is one thing to grump about, the windage adjustment is often not a crisp click, but rather a near silent, barely perceptible click as you turn the dial. No big deal, they hold their zero just fine.

The only reason I would change would be to get a rear peep with elevations dialed on it, such as the Knights' USMC rear peep, or the LaRue elevator lever style rear sight. I would only consider this if I were looking to shoot longer distances, beyond 250yds.
