Default New sport owner, VERY happy!

So, I picked me up a sport a few weeks ago and I'm in love! It was used, but barely. It has the 1:8 5R and shoots great. 250 rounds so far without a problem. I'm a lefty, so I will make a few changes to make it more lefty friendly. Been reading a lot and learning a lot as well. Gonna be mainly for range fun but I may chase some white tails with here as well, but for now just having fun at the range. And now......some gun porn! As soon as I can figure out how to post them)

Welcome aboard! I'm glad you enjoy your "classic" 15-Sport. (that's what I call the 1:8-er's)

Install ambidextrous controls! There are a few outfits out there that make ambi safeties and mag catch assemblies.

Thanks for the welcome! So far I'm thinking of going with the stag LH safety selector and a troy ambi mag release. And I'm looking at the ATI Scorpion grip, don't really like the stock grip feel. Those good quality parts or should I be looking at something else?

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on a fine rifle. You're fixin' to open a can of worms with that last part. That's like a drug addict going to his dealer for free samples. Enjoy!

Good Luck and good shooting.

Before buying a grip be sure to wrap your hand around a Hogue.

Magpul MOE Plus is a great grip as well. Speaking of grips, why would you allow rubber grips on your model 19? Wood, wood dude, beautiful grained wood.

You'll get tons of opinions. The most important part is that you buy the furniture that makes the rifle fit you better. If that scorpion grip with the very defined finger grooves fit your hand and fingers just right, then get it. IMO, the safety selector is a function over form item, get what works for you. Troy makes good stuff.

I really like the Blackhawk Ergo grip. Fits my small hands well and is soft and comfortable enough to shoot all day without any encouragement to my arthritis. And it's only $25.

You'll just keep buying until you find what you like. Most have a drawer or box full of spare parts we thought we liked and bought more. I personally like the Magpul but like
JaPes said there will be lots of opinions.

Yeah, I figured much of it will be try it and see. Going to take awhile as upgrades will be slow due to cash flow. And the rubber grips on the .357 are SO comfortable. Still got the original grip though, somewhere.

Grips are definitely one area you can end up, blowing a wad of cash on. You can try one on a rifle, throw it on your build and hate it. Luckily, my mistakes (one which, I like) cost me about $35 total and the fix, $26. Some pay quite a bit more than that just for one. I like the Tapco Intrafuse and the Magpul MOE. Both basically the same thing except the Tapco comes with cap, for storage (that also fits the Magpul).

Good man, OK, you can come back in the club house.

Goodyears on a Classic is still wrong, though.

Good Luck and good shooting.

As to grips... another vote for the magpul MOE+. The regular MOE is still the hard plastic, the MOE+ has the rubber overmold to it - huge difference in grip and improvement to comfort for only a couple bucks more. Plus it doubles as storage and does include an end cap. Specialized end caps for the grip can be purchased extra designed to hold specific items such as batteries or spare firing pin. Plus it's still under $25.

Thanks for the input folks. Picked up a hogue grip today at a LGS. I liked the feel of it, tried the magul MOE+ but prefer the finger grooves. Also ordered the LH selector switch from stag. Next purchase.....ammo! Won't get to the range for about 3 weeks though.

I am also a lefty. I too have a "Classic M&P 15 Sport (1 in 8 5R)". I love it and is shoots great. I found out that the FA on my other M4 carbines only gets in my way as I use my Raptor ambi charging handle. I also added a Norgon ambi mag release and a Stag Arms ambi fire selector. Of course, the SSA trigger, the ACS stock, the 13" Troy VTAC handguard, the MOE K2 grip, and the Leupold VX-R 1.25 x 4 scope in M2 mount had nothing to do with being LH, but everything to do with a 3 year journey down the custom M4 road. I have never regretted buying my Sport. I use it for 3 gun and fun. May take it predator hunting, coyote.

Well, grip and safety installed and I snuck out to the range. Love the grip and safety worked like a champ. Only had 60rds though, but oh so fun. Beautiful day!

I find the M&P15 sport perfect right out of the box with the factory sights. I bought one a few months ago and just finally got to shoot it at a range, all I can say is WOW! Thai rifle is the most accurate AR15 I have shot. I had considered optics but I think I will just leave it the way it is. It is an outstanding gun!

I bought my Sport last week. I put a MOE grip on it, and I changed the rear sight to a Daniel Defense non-folding rear sight. Got some Winchester M855 ammo, and some Winchester 223 64gr PowerPoints, and went to the range. The M855 groups quite well at about 1.25 " at 100 yds., while that 223 64gr stuff shot a smaller group inside that 1.25 " group of the 62 gr. stuff. The .223 stuff shot near .5" at 100 yds. I shoot open sights regularly, and the size of the smaller group surprises me. The larger group is about normal for a good accurate rifle in my hands. All in all, I am very happy with my Sport.......

Well, I picked up a 6"-9" bipod the other day. I've never used one before and for $40, I'll give it a try. Got the Harris #5 bipod mount for the stock handguard. Also picked up a set of Nikon P223 rings so I could mount the scope properly. Throw in a 100rds. and I've got a day at the range tomorrow I think.
