Default 1-4X24 Bushnell with BDC Drop Zone Reticle

So, I have the aforementioned scope on my Sport. I went to the range the other day to shoot on the 300 yard with the Drop Zone Compensator. 4X Isn't very powerful at 300 yards. I shot 20 rounds and was on paper for about 14 of those rounds.

I'm not exactly sure what would be considered good under the circumstances. I was using 55 grain FMJ Independence ammunition with a bipod on a bench. If I were using my .308 with it's 18X scope it would've been a different story.

What do you guys think? uploadfromtaptalk1403542282380.jpg

Did you zero the scope? If it is zeroed a 100, than you may have a loose ring[s], base. How well could you see the target? Is it a new scope? Be Safe,

Yeah, it's zero is @ 100 yards. My grouping at 100 is pretty tight at 4X.

The BDC should be at the 2nd dot. The dot is almost as big as the target at 300 yards.

What ammo spec were you shooting? What were the range conditions?

I was shooting Independence 55 grain FMJ with little wind. Great conditions...

I really wanted to try the reticle drop at 300 yards. I'm really just wondering if hitting a 12" target with 4X magnification is good or should I actually be trying to get tight groups? uploadfromtaptalk1403575439203.jpg

You stated 100 yd group is tight? I do not know what that means?? Out of of of my 308's with cheap ball, 10 rounds makes about a 40 cal hole, the same gun @ 200 with ammo it likes will punch first 2 through the same hole, then due to operator error the third shot will be 1/4-1/2" to right. So what do you plan on shooting with it? If it's coyotes 12"+ group would not be acceptable for me. I did not really notice a group on the target you showed that is why I questioned if something was loose. In regards to the scope- I had put on Nikon M-300 and I also found that the first ( ring/cross hair ) 7X @ 150 yds was to thick for me to reliably hit a 5.5 X5.5" square! One would go in, one close, the next off 3-4 ", I had a standard mildot on this 300BLK SW previously and it put was close to 1.5 " @ 100 yd out of the box. I move up in size of my target and see where it goes. You may be having a similar problem that you have ( poor target definition ). I would suggest checking your rings, base etc, confirm @ 100 then move to 200 then to 300 and see if you can see the target, if group expands appropriately, and decide what level of accuracy is needed for your weapon. Be Safe,
