I have an M&P 15 Sport, and I am planning on having a VTAC 13" alpha battle rail installed. I will, I understand, need a low profile gas block.

Does anyone have a recommendation? I looked on Midway and saw many come with no roll pin (whatever that is), and I think I prefer the clamp style to the set screw style. Is the .750" the right size for the M&P 15 Sport?

750 is correct size, Pinned is best, but plenty of people have used set screw or clamp-on with no issue. I use a set screw model, some say the clamp-on distributes stress better, some say it can twist or interfere with some rail setups, so ymmv.

Use the proper thread locker (RC 620/Rocksett) and dimple if so desired and you will be good to go. BCM, Troy, Midwest, DPMS all offer reasonably priced lo-pro gas blocks and all will work about the same. You can spend more and get something fancy ie adjustable, but unless you are shooting a vast array of different loads, wildcatting, etc you probably don't need it. I have the Troy and it works fine.

Many good suggestions here already. I used the YHM clamp type lo pro, when I installed the Troy on my Sport.
