Hi all,

I recently bought a M&P sport. I am considering putting the magpul MOE M-LOK handguard on it. I see where Cabelas has three sizes: a carbine, a mid-length, and a rifle. Can anybody tell me which one I need?

Thank you

The SL is very nice. I put one on my Mid MOE and like it better than the one it came with.

I tried the SL and was not impressed, it ended up on another AR. My Sport now wears a MI drop in key mod hand guard that i like, not too large and offers places for sling QD swivels and accessory rails yet is no heavier than the Magpul.

Carbine length. I have the SL on mine, I might've been happier with the first version to keep the bayo lug and front sight available for rail adapters. The SL also keeps a couple of my scope mounts from being able to mount at the most forward position, but a little trimming would fix that.

I haven't tried to mount a bayonet with the SL, but I've seen pics posted of one mounted on the fsb.

The SL doesn't inhibit using a bayonet. I was just saying there's no space to use a picatinny rail adapter to mount a light in that spot. I also have two rail pieces that clamp onto the front sight, but the SL protrusions come too close to make use of them for a weaponlight.

but on the SL handguard I have to remove the sling attachment right on my rifle correct? What if I want to leave that on? Would I need the mid-length? I want to use the MOE black handguard but really dont want to remove the sling attachment.

You do have to remove the sling attachment. I replaced mine with an M-lok QD. The SL handguard length has to match the gas system.

Here's mine. Does the job. Much better than stock .

Here's the moe sl on mine. I had to remove the foward sling attachment but will probably get a single point attachment sling and attachment ring to mount on the front of the stock anyway.

If you are going to go with Magpul, consider their MLOK forend instead of MOE. They look almost identical, except for the subtle difference in slots. MOE is at an evolutionary dead end. More MLOK accessories are available, and from aftermarket too.

Going further, if you want a Magpul MOE buttstock for a Sport II, spend a few more dollars and get the CTR version. While similar, the CTR has a lock on it and fits tighter on the Sport II buffer tube, resulting in a lot less wobble. I took my MOE buttstock off my Sport II and replaced it with a CTR. Big difference. The MOE is going onto another gun. Be sure to order milspec for the Sport II, not commercial.
