I'm trying to figure out if I can install a A2 front sight on my m&p15OR model? I have a m4 profile barrel I'd love to keep. Any help from you guys would be appreciated.

How literal are you about the A2 front sight?
You can change out the gas block for a fixed front sight gas block
Or you can buy a metal sight to just put on the rail that you have now, since that part of the gun is basically the biggest reason you would've chosen that model.

Why not just get a sight that attaches to your existing railed gas block? Why did you buy an optics ready version if you wanted A2 sight system?

I think I'm one of the few who like the look of the A2... and the rifle I got a great deal on and couldn't pass up. I have a magpul front sight on it now and it works fine.uploadfromtaptalk1452625948758.jpg

I love the rifle and wouldn't get rid of it for the sight. Oddly enough I also have a 15T model for the wife and she likes the flip up sights better.

You should get something different than the Magpuls... the gas block gets too hot for them. They don't melt, but become brittle and break from the heat.

But, if you want to change out the whole gas block, you can.

I'll trade you a complete S&W A2 front sight gas block assembly, took it off a Sport.
Already have sling swivel removed to work with that SL handgrip, as I ran that setup for most of the rifle's life.

I guess there are now two of us that like the looks of an A-2 sight.

Before you go trading anyone, just be aware that you may have to do some minor drilling to get an A-2 sight to hold in place with taper pins. I believe that you will also need a taper pin reamer to get the correct angle to the modification of the barrel to match the pins.

Of course you can always get a competition A-2 front sight tower that's held in place with glue and set screws. The set screws are so you can adjust the sight to get an absolute windage zero instead of using the rear sight.

I never said it was going to be easy. I envisioned using a clamp on type, but if you want to use a pinned one, I would have a smith do it.

I've seen a rail mounted sight that looks like an A2. That may be an option for you. I can't remember where I saw it though. Check Brownells, Midway USA, and Nanchez. One of them should have it.
