P Mag vs Hex Mag Review
My review as a AR Noob!
Mag Warehouse had a Six Pack Special on Hex Mags $50,00
Construction on P Mag and Hex mag about the same good!
Follower on P Mag A+ tracks straight the Hex Mag can tilt, not a big deal
Hex IMO good for the price of About $8.30
BUT ( watch out for my Butts :O ) Next batch of Mags will be P mags I think are a bit better and worth the extra $$$

I bought two of the 6 packs, did yours come in as series 1? Mine did, I was a bit disappointed.
My core15 came with a Hexmag, my first experience with them. That mag, in any AR, would fail on occasion to lift a round high enough for the bcg to catch and load. I'd still use it as I only use for target shooting, but after it did it twice in a 30 round load I decided to contact hexmag and let them know of my problem with their magazine.
To my surprise they replied in about 15 minutes. Asked for photos of the date/label side of the mag and a photo of the follower(my original hexmag has the red follower). After sending them photos, they promptly replied they were sending me a replacement magazine and it was the new Series 2 which corrected some issue with the original magazine.
Apparently there are no follower changes as they told me the series 2 came with an orange follower, and that if I wanted I could install my original red follower. I didn't change it, shot a couple hundred rounds through it in about 4 different AR's and the series 2 ran perfect.
Magwarehouse finally got those 6 packs back in stock so I thought I'd stock up on some. Unfortunately, while they came with orange followers, they are still the series 1 magazines as listed in the side. I would have thought since hexmag sent me a series 2 well before magwarehouse restocked, I'd receive series 2 from them. I contacted magwarehouse and they said all they had were series 1, and series 2 weren't available yet...
Anyways, I tried on of those magazines out this evening and it seemed to work fine. At least if they do malfunction, hexmag has exceptional customer service. If it was guaranteed to get series 2 mags at that price, I'd do it over P-mags to save a little coin, but for the series 1, I'd pay a little more.

Only have 1 Hexmag, and it's a series 1 10/30 that came with the orange follower. Put around 80 rounds through it, with no issues. When testing my reloads, I've loaded it with 1rd, 3rds, 5rds, and a full 10. Locked in with no problem; fed cleanly; and the bolt locked open when empty.
Definitely like the extra length versus the 10rd'ers we have to use out here. If the gray ones show up in stock, a 6pk sounds like a good idea.

,Thanks for the replies!
I had to check and Yes I have the Series 1 30 round Mags They fit OK and will be shooting them this week, I do have the orange follower in them, but I like the way the P Mag follower tracks level.. With series 2 does the follower tilt when loaded like series 1? of does it track straight like the P Mag ?
Good to hear the Hex has good CS. But I will stay with P mag for now for future mags

I don't really notice or see any difference between the series 1 and 2 magazines in the way the follower tilt, or any other visual aspect of the two other than the Series 2 allows the use of stripper clips (which I've never used).
I've seen several have the issue I had with my original Hexmag, but then there are others that haven't experienced it. I know my original is dated some time in 2015, and my new series 1 magazine are dated 8/16, which is the same date as my new series 2

I've asked hexmag about them. They say there is just series 1, and the new series 2, all series 1, regardless of color of follower are still series 1 magazines.
RE Date code: There is a circle on one side of the magazine towards the magwell end that has numbers 1-12 around the edge, with an arrow in the center pointing towards a number, and there will be a 15 or 16 for the year around the arrow.

Very interesting. Checked the date stamp on mine. Arrow points to 6, and splits the number 13. Even more interesting, is the fact that hexmag says they first sold mags march 2014.

They would have needed to build up an inventory before hand to send to stores for resale, so not surprising that the manufacture date would predate the first available for sale date.

According to their web site, they didn't finalize mag specs until november of 2013. Emailed them, just out of curiosity. Have had 0 issues with the mag.

With regards to me saying 15 or 16, it's irrelevant, that was an example of the year. I have no idea about their history or years they have been making them.
I just found it interesting the my recently purchased Series 1 magazines were August 16, same as my recently received replacement series 2. I'll try to post photos of my original problematic series 1, new series 1 and series 2 magazines this evening.
According to Hexmag there is zero difference in any of the series 1 magazines, mine isn't reliable (my original one), like anything, perhaps they had a batch at a particular time that had some flaws where batches before or after were fine.

Just got in some MFT 30 round mags from Primary arms, they had a sale last week, came out to 8.66 a piece shipped. Very similar to Pmags and there is zero tilt in the followers. They have a VERY stout body.
I see Primary arms is currently blowing out the Hexmag at 7.99 a piece (I'd assume they are series 1 leftovers, but might call them and ask?

Just to ad another to the mix, Westernsport.com has Troy Battle Mags, 30 rounders for 6.99. I've never used any, but ordered 10, I've ordered from this place a couple times previously and was always satisfied with the service.
I've never seen a bad review about the Troy mags.

I have both, the hex mags and the p-mags, I shoot them back to back and haven't been able to tell the difference. I have never had a problem with either. My local dealer has some Amend 2 mags at a very good price, I think I will pick up a few of them also. I haven't heard much about them.

Never heard of the Amend ,please update us after you try them !
Yesterday blew through another 100 rounds w/the Hex Mags and P Mag.. No issues, BUT loading the P Mag with the anti tilt follower is a little easier! Would I buy another 6 pack of Hex Mags for 50$??? Yes I would BUT if the P Mags are close in price I will buy P Mags
