S&W M&P 15 Sport II

Hello from Florida. This is my first Post

I called S&W today to request a spare Bolt Carrier Group for my Sport II. The Rep told me that this is a "Restricted" item and they do not sell them. I would have to send them the rifle to have them "Install" the Part. I told the Rep that makes no sense since I remove the Bolt and replace it each time I clean the Rifle. Oh well rules are rules. I would appreciate recommendations for a Quality drop in BCG with which you have had great results with the Sport II. Thanks in advance.

Any known, quality manufacturer such as Bravo Co should be fine.

Be aware there are different types of carriers too. Both are leagl to use in a semiautomatic rifle. The M16 or full auto carrier is heavier and good if you rifle is over gassed. It will soften the recoil somewhat.

My guess is S&W is concerned about headspace and wants it properly checked.

Have a gunsmith check the headspace, if its off you'll have to swap bolts and find one that's correct. That's the easiest way to "adjust" headspace. Every other way requires a knowledgeable gunsmith to adjust it.

Why pay for a name on a BCG? PSA has some of the best BCG's around, for over half the price less than name brands.
In the 1st link below I bought this Premium (less logo-saved $10) BCG back in July 2016 for my AR-556, $89.99 with FREE SHIPPING. It's built the same way with the same specs as the big name brand BCG's, for far less money.
In the 2nd link, I just recently bought a Nickle Boron BCG from PSA. $99.99 with FREE SHIPPING. My son wants it so he's buying it from me. I will put my other PSA BCG back in my AR-556.

Checking the Headspace

Checking the Headspace is not that complicated, providing you have the proper go and no go gauges which can be somewhat expensive. I was wondering if anyone has used a particular BCG in the Sport II, with great results. Thanks

If you go to PSA and the item says blemish don't worry about that. I have bought 2 uppers and 2 lowers from them that were suppose to be blemished and I couldn't find a single blemish on them anywhere.

I would worry about it, especially with a bolt. It's not the "blemish" I can see, it is the one I can't see that worries me.

Ok, so now the question must be asked... why do you feel you need another bcg? Are you a high round shooter, or in competitions?

High round shooter... as in a thousand rounds or more per month? If so, forget about having a spare BCG... replace BCG when you replace the barrel.
