New purchase M&P 15x (311008)
Greetings all,
New to this site and new to own a S&W 15x (311008) that I picked up from Sportman's Outdoor Warehouse in "VG" shape. Pleased to see that this one must have been one that sat on the rack; honestly it looks unfired. Thank you ahead of time; here's my question: Am curious on year of mfg., generation of build, or anything else you might know, could pass along, or guide me as to where to look. Thanks! SN is SV0332x. Dust cover, round forward assist, all metal rear sight.
I retired in the mid-2000's after 20 years of active duty, most of those as a Green Beret medic (18D) and as a SOF Physician Assistant. When I got out, I swore I'd never do another M4 - lol. So, I went the AK route. Well, I'm back to the M4, and am pleased with this as my "back to 'em" weapon. Your thoughts, words, much appreciated. Best to all.

Welcome to the forum! For year built type of info, I would suggest calling S&W.

Welcome to the forum. Early 70's Combat Engineer. One of the last to have the M-14. Hated the M-16 when they replaced the M-14. Took me a long time to come around to the M-4 platform too.
As mentioned. Call S&W, they'll fill you in on all the details you want. Call early, phones get busy quick.

Another thought after giving it a good cleaning and fresh lube. Take the time to get it broke in before adding any/all kinds of upgrades you might be hearing or thinking about. It'll save you some money and a box full of extra parts. No need to start shooting "higher end" ammo breaking it in unless you prefer that. But I'd stay away from the dirty cheaper low end ammo. Getting the barrel broke in, I'd keep an eye on heat and spread your shots out a little. Hot to the touch is ok. Take your time dialing it in and enjoy the moment. You don't need to "baby it" though. I know it's tempting to do a couple mag dumps, but excessive heat breaking it in isn't the best way to go either. After barrel break-in a couple now and then won't hurt as bad. Better ammo and barrel break-in you'll notice it in your tighter group sizes down the road. Stay safe and have fun.

Just took delivery of a 15X police trade-in myself. I paid for the "good" condition at $549 no tax, free shipping. Looks like the rifle came out of a rack once or twice and barely fired. Totally satisfied. I was about to buy a Sport II, but for the same price, why not the X. Now my Wife has a Zombie shooter!
Here it is sitting below the 6920. Might add a light and an AFG-2. I like 'em simple.
