I have owned a Sport for several years, and recently bought a Sport II. Both have non-shielded handguard and while they have not been a problem, I am considering changing them to a shielded handguard.

I would like to stick with a handguard that looks like the original, but with the shield. Do you know if there is such a thing, and if so where they can be found?

I have looked at the Magpul MOE M-lok and I prefer the look of the original handguard. Also, they are a bit expensive.

The Magpul MOE SL is a great hand guard, but if you don't like the look and cost there are several options.

A quick online search for AR15 Carbine length hand guard with heat shield will give you lots of results.

Here is one from Primary Arms. I have no experience with it but it is what you are looking for.

The Magpul handguard is much more versatile, you can add M-Lok attachment and fits your hand comfortably.

You should be able to find OEM style hand guards with heat shields at Brownells. Check the website.

I ended up purchasing hand guards from Brownell's. I have done business with them for years.

I also picked up a couple of Strike Industries AR-15 Charging Handles with Extended Latch Aluminum Black from Cheaper Than Dirt. One for my Sport and one for my Sport II.

These will likely be the last changes to my Sports as I like simple and light weight AR's.

Shame on you for buying anything from cheaper than dirt. The first company to throw us all under the bus after Sandy Hook.

I installed a spare set of Colt handguards from my LE6920 the day I received my Sports II a few months ago.

They worked great, BUT my Sport II was gaining weight with those handguards and the other items I was hanging off of it.

A recent trip to the range with a teenager and mother made me realize this rifle needed to go back to light weight configuration.

Not only are the S&W handguards lighter, they also have a smaller overall diameter.

My Double Star hand guards arrived.

They are the same diameter as the M&P Sport Ii’s except they have a single heat shield instead of bare plastic. I’m very pleased with them for $9.99.
