New to the forum, so please take it easy on me haha. Also new to AR 15's. Searching for my first AR and came across SW's new series, the Volunteer. If I simplify what I see, they have a Volunteer XV series and a Volunteer XV pro series. I am interested in a 14.5" -16" barrel model of both. Models are 13507(non pro) vs the pro (13516).

Looking at both models, I don't see why the significate price difference between these two models? The non-pro goes for ~1K and the pro 1.5k. So my question is, am I getting that much more rifle for the money if I buy the pro version?

Handguard, muzzle device and iron site are the difference in cost. A lot of folks buy the basic version, (non-pro) and eventually up grade listed stuff. The pro version is already up graded for you if you like the stuff S&W hung on it.

If you go with a 14.5" bbl it's going to have a pinned & welded muzzle device on it to make it legal, so you won't be able to remove, change, or add anything on that end.

If you're planning on spending $1,000-$1,500 or more on an AR, at least get a Daniel Defense, BCM, Noveske, LaRure, Geisele, LMT, etc.

This is ultimately the type of info I was looking for. Someone to tell me if you're going to spend that kind of money (1k to 1500), buy something of better value and quality. Being new, that's hard for me to do.. I will look Daniel Defense, BCM, Noveske, LaRure, and Geisele and see what I can find. Can I ask, did you have a model of one or two in mind if you were spending in the 1500 range?

S&W is asking a lot if money for a rifle with a 4140 steel barrel.

I’ve had an original M&P 15 for roughly 15 years and it’s been excellent, but I would look elsewhere than the current S&W Volunteer if I were going to spend $1500.

I have a Daniel Defense DDM4V7 and a LWRC DI rifle. The DDM4 is an excellent rifle but costs about 1700 the LWRC is also nice and goes for about 1600.

Like others have said there are cheaper and more expensive AR’s on the market. I would get a good quality named brand rifle because you get what you pay for. My brother in law was going to buy an AR when Covid hit, he told me the brands he was looking at and I told him make sure it is a good rifle he ended up with a DDM4V7.
