Wow, I didn't know that, I cut the barrel down so there were no threads and slid on a Mini-14 sized M-14 style flash hider after thinning the barrel OD, then pinned and welded the thing so the overall length was over 26" with the stock folded.
Had to drill out the center for .311" bullets and the barrel had to still be over 16" to keep the thing at a legal OAL.
The reason I chose the Mini-30 over the Mini-14 was to take advantage of the cheap and plentiful steel cased Russian 7.62X39 ammo that was falling off the shelves at the time.
Ruger warned against doing that because the hard Russian primers could cause a firing pin to break and the rifle would have had to be returned to the factory for a replacement firing pin.
I sold the rifle before that ever happened because Ruger policy is to return the rifle to factory specs. and this thing would have never made it through the front door.
These days if I break a firing pin on my AR, a "drop in" replacement is standing by.
...sure turned out purty though.
