Years ago I decided I wanted to snazz up my run of the mill Ruger Mini-30 into something special.
I succeeded, but Ruger wouldn't sell me their proprietary GB style flash hider while Bill Ruger was in charge.
Went with something different at the time because I couldn't locate one at gunshow or anywhere else after looking for years.
That's why when they came out with their AR-556 I jumped on the opportunity to finally get one!
Then I stood behind a friend as he fired my new rifle from the prone position with the muzzle just a few inches above the dusty ground...
FOOM!
Immediately purchased an A2 flash hider and now I know why the military added the solid portion underneath.
Something to think about if you're considering adding a brake or compensator to your AR.
