Thanks for the input, roaddog28. I know the SW9M was a short run and has been discontinued for many years. Other posters have said that once S&W takes them in for repairs they keep them. However, I'm anxious to see what they say.

In reply to b1780...I can only say that one's experience with a Sigma must greatly depend on the model and series. The model I have and ones in the same series don't seem to garner much love. Especially from me. If S&W offers, I wouldn't mind accepting one of a later series to try out.

I heard back from S&W. They want to take it in, but they didn't say whether they'd fix it or what. I'm supposed to call them tomorrow for more info.

They should very well upgrade you and do it right now once the pistol is in there hands.

If I look at the pic right and see it right. I see the break happening at the junction of a rolled pin. A roll pin in any syn / plastic or reinforced syn is a very bad move. There mode is to expand when the right harmonics or vibs are presented to them. If the compression happens in the center third of mount the outer two thirds could very well expand. Thus the failure. There best usage is when they are set in a hard steel or alloy. Set in soft alloy of syn materials they are a failure waiting to happen when hard loads are present. Solid pins with a slight press fit are much better. This is basic mech. engineering 101 in the real world. A person does not need a degree in engineering to know,,, thats bad.

You have a real case of expected life time warranty and a honest expectation of resolution. I hope you are offered a custom shop Sigma for your trouble. If that thing had failed in my wifes hands I would be on my way to factory pistol in tow. And not polite about it.........

I bought my Sigma SW40VE in 2004, as it was cheap, and it was a S&W. It was mostly becasue the price was right for me, so I figured that S&W was a good name, so it had to be good. I have put about 500 rounds down the pipe since then, with no issues at all. All stock, no enhancements. For the $299 I paid for it, I think it was/is well worth it. I am not disappointed.

I now want a M&P 9mm...something about it is just calling me. I think it wants to beat up my G19, lol!

This is my first post here. I joined mostly because of the Sigma information here.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago, and I must admit that I've had about a 50% malfunction rate through the first 100 rounds.

But 100% of those malfunctions came out of one box of my own reloads that I had loaded too lightly. They'd most likey have malfunctioned in any gun.

However with a box of American Eagle 115 gr FMJ ammo, and a half box of 147 gr WWB, HP, it's been perfect. I know that's not much of a test, but I haven't had it too long either.

This isn't my first rodeo. I had an XD-9 that I traded off. Nothing wrong with the XD, as a matter of fact I really liked it, but saw something I liked more. And my wife has a Glock 19 that I've shot a bit also. (I've also got a Hi-Point C-9, another gun that get's knocked on a lot.)

The Sigma does have a "worse" trigger than the XD and the Glock. But it doesn't take two men, a boy, and a small dog to pull it as some might have you believe. I've dry fired it a few hundred times and it seems to have smoothed out a lot. I'd say it's not as good as the G-19, and a LOT better than the Kel-Tec P-11, I used to have.

Brought a used, but looked never shot, to range today. i was apprehensive about trigger and FTE/FTF from posts. Put a box of 50 through the gun and was impressed. Trigger was not bad at all, and accuracy was on the money. I will take advantage of their current rebate and buy a new model.

I have had my 9VE for several years, and it's been a winner for me. The grip feels natural in my hand, and having been a revolver guy for 30 years before getting my first semi-auto (not counting 2 Ruger Mk IIs) the trigger is just right for my purpose. It has been my primary carry weapon for over 2 years now.
P.S. if you polish the sides of the stainless slide it looks quite handsome.

I am at 1200 rds thru my 9VE, flawless. Have 200 rds of Winchester white box in the range bag for next trip. I am not a big fan of the .40 as I have seen sevral of my guns (and me) take a pounding from that hi pressure round.
Keep the comments coming and thanks!

Talking New sigma owner

First post on forum, I have been lurking about reading and first
want to thank all the individuals who post on this forum for the vast knowledge of sigma and other pistols. I just bought a s&w
sw9e at a local gun show in Memphis in march. I LOVE it!!!!! The sigma is not my first pistol, a llama omni 9mm had that distinction. I think the sigma is a great pistol for the price no matter what your needs. Since march I have put 250 rounds down range without a single problem!!!! My wife who had never shot a pistol before came along as well as her friend who brought her new ruger .380 lcp. My wife first shot my sigma after a short how to and safety instructions. Remember she has never shot a pistol before I loaded two 10 rd mags for her and told her to go at it. At fifteen feet she put all twenty shots on the paper!!!! And not only that but she also had three double taps within the center black!!! ( I'll post pics as soon as I can get to my computer) but as for the trigger it's not bad can't really complain with a great price tag like 279.00 plus rebate I'll take the two 16 rd mags I mean if my short 4'11" wife can handle the pull a grown man should be able to. Well I wanted to make my first post and say hello.
Like I said been reading alot here and happy to find folks who appreciate the sigma for what it is a good looking, reliable weapon. More to come thanks to a great community of owners

Glad you and your wife like the sigma.

I am a 63 year old who also loves my Sigma SW9VE as it comes out of the box. The best part of your whole post was, "I mean if my short 4'11" wife can handle the pull a grown man should be able to." That one statement says a lot about all the ways all the young bucks here are always trying to ruduce the trigger pull. "If you have it, learn to shoot it. S&W built it that way for a purpose." I shoot very accurate with mine. Don't let a 4'11" wife beat you young bucks to the draw.

Welcome medic23

Shipped my broken SW9M to Springfield on the company's dime today. Can't wait to find out what they want to do about it. It would be awesome if they just replaced it with a newer model, but that's kind of pie-in-the-sky!

I'll post again after I've heard from S&W.

Yup,My sigma is junk!!!

After 11,000 rounds, zero FTF,FTE, 15 different brands of ammo, and 4 inch groups at 25 yards. Its the biggest piece of **** I ever found.

My Sigma is like yours. I ,,, darn it broke a extractor. Replaced it myself and it still digest any retail ammo I care to feed it. And it loves my reloads to the point of ballistic sanity.....

Okay, it happened. I'm pleased to report that S&W just called and while they can't repair my broken SW9M, they're replacing it with the new model 9MM Sigma. I can't wait to see how I like it.

I'm excited. My 9VE came today. The first thing I did was break it down for a good look. It was immediately obvious that it was much higher in quality than the 9M that I sent in. And I LOVE how easy it is to take it apart as opposed to the 9M!

I like the 15+1 capacity and the adjustable sights, but I'll be looking for a different carry gun. The 9VE is a little larger than I like for concealed, but it'll be just fine for open carry in a hip holster. The 9M was just the right size to carry concealed.

In just the few times I had to pull the trigger for breakdown I can see it's a bit stiff, but I agree with TLG and Thunderhawk88 about using it as-is. I don't see a need for a super light pull on a carry pistol and I think it'll probably ease up a bit after a decent break-in period anyway.

Thanks for everyone's advice and input here. It helped a lot! I'll report back on my feelings about how it shoots after I've had a chance to go out.

Forgot to ask...anyone have trouble with the 9VE not firing military ammo? My 9M wouldn't - just dimpled the primer a bit!

Anyway, I guess I'll find out when I go shootin'!

Just checking in on my original thread. Great comments! I am at 1700 rounds without a problem! Looking at SD9 tomorrow to see if any improvements. Have been dumping my TDA's Smith, Beretta, Sig as I get more enamored with the Sigma benefits (and piece of mind) for a carry piece.

I think the 'truth' about the VE's is that they are good, reliable pistols capable of excellent accuracy. The same trigger that makes them safe, for any same carry mode, makes them a little harder to shoot well.

This is of no consequence to a committed shooter. Uncommitted shooters will whine about how hard the VE's trigger is- instead of working to master it.

The SD's appear to be a refined version of the VE with a slightly lighter trigger, all black finish and the ability to fit M&P holsters. I think it will be a big seller and it compliments the S&W DAO line.

Have a 40 caliber Sigma. Best feeling handgun I ever held ion my hands. Fit's like a glove. Shootts 3" groups at 25 yards all day long. Going to buy another one soon as a permanent car piece. Honestly when I am shooting I hardly notice the trigger.

new owner of sigma 9mm just got back from the range. the sigma ate all 200 rounds of WWB without any problems firing at all. the only problems i saw were mag related, the slide would not lock back when using one of my mags because the feeder was getting stuck so it would not engage the lever. a few more range trips will fix that.

the gun shot beautiful the first 100 were going low and left but then i got use to the trigger. it is a long hard pull but not that bad, at this point im not even going to mess around with the springs. id rather have a firm trigger pull to prevent accidental discharges. if this was to be a carry gun i could see the need to mod the trigger though.

Side note the Kimber toting gun snob next to me had to pack it up early as he could not feed a single mag without have a FTE. the range master asked him to leave. The sigma may have a hard trigger but it will go bang when needed and that is what counts

What? Your logic has completely lost me.

You like the heavy trigger to prevent AD's, BUT!!!! If it's a carry gun you see the need to mod the trigger? huh?

Would you make it more likely to have an AD if it was a carry gun? Perhaps I'm reading this all wrong; if so, sorry but I don't get it at all.

what i meant is the trigger is not crisp enough when it breaks and the reset is fairly long. i dont mind the heavy pull at all as i mentioned

Gentlemen, please reference my post in SIGMA FAQ. Post #75 Titled "SIGMA History". That will give you insight to why SIGMA's are spoken bad of, even to this day. And, like a poster said earlier in this thread, Gun shop "Hero's" and "Expert's" spouting drivel they have heard, and have no real experience with the Pistol.. It chaps my *** to this day.
And, after S&W's misstep with the SIGMA, they up and did it again with the SW9M. Brillant Idea, badly applied. S&W was trying to make money fast with cheap guns. I had one myself for a while. Loved the size of it and when it did fire, very controllable. Constant misfires from an out of spec chamber and excessive headspace ruined it for me. I called S&W for answers and the Rep advised me that the SW9M was completly deleted out due to problems and no service or parts existed for them. He then asked me what I liked. I told him I liked 908's and he said send in the SW9M and they would swap me. I did and they did! You know I jumped on that quick. S&W has always taken care of me thru the years. Even when bad leadership caused engineering headaches with less than ready to be built pistols. S&W still stood behind that *** SW9M, 10 or so years after thay built it. I love 'em.

I really like my SW9VE. Have about 400 rounds through it and no problems at all. Accurate and reliable. I highly recommend it.

I've had my Sigma 40ve for almost 2 years. It is a reliable gun. After I figured out the trigger pull it became a very accurate gun for me. I would have no problem carrying it. I currently carry a Glock 27, but if it was confiscated due to a shooting I would start carrying the Sigma.

Truth is, I have 650 rounds through my SW9VE. Trigger takes practice. Factory trigger is not a problem.

Checking in here. Been focusing on SW revolvers for the last year or so. Sold my Sigma to a guy who needed a good home defense piece and not much cash. Pulled my Glock 17 & 19 out of the safe but I just can't get in to shooting them. Checking out an SD9 tomorrow. Miss that Sigma!

I have owned over 100 handguns and although it has a "heavy" trigger, it IS a true DAO and no one should expect the trigger of a Camp Perry/ Les Bear 1911!
I am getting center mass double taps from the leather in 2.0 seconds at 10 yds. What am I missing here??? Is all this true or is this gun the sleeper of the decade??? Just leave it alone and shoot it !!!
PS: My 1911PD and HK P2000 broke at 150 rds!!
I had one of the the most-despised-by-gun-gurus 1st generation .40 Sigmas back in the mid-90s: I thought it was a great gun. Never gave me any problems, and it was as accurate as I was. I think the Sigma is a love-to-hate gun with a certain crowd, but honestly they are a good gun for the money. If all I had was a Sigma (of any generation) for HD and carry, I would not feel at a disadvantage in any way.

Just got home from a 13 hour day, SHOOTING. Tactical training, car jacking, night shooting, etc., shot my Sigma all day, no problems, (other than me hitting the mag release a few inopportune times). The Sigma played real well with all the other 'kids', Sigs, Glocks, etc. It's everybit as good a gun in those situations as anything else, it rained on us, we crawled around in the dirt. Can't remember complaining about the trigger much, (I had to!) Going back for day two today.

I asked the very same question not to long ago .... one of the fellas who's been around a bit brought up the point that they had some quality or mechanical issues in the begining, and that helped spur rumors of its low quality ....

I was NOT surprised, however, when NOT ONE of the Sigma bashers who chimes in at what junk they are cared to speak up ... NOT ONE. So it seems they stick to their guns (pun intended) until an actual thought and reason is needed, not just the ability to go with the group, they had little to say ..... NOT ONE of these mofo's had the brass to say 'yeah, the sigma sucks and here's why' .... yet they are the first to chime in when someone else starts bashing ... typical sheeple mentality of people with little power of thought.

You know who you are.

Many sigma bashers are sigma bashers because they can't shoot the gun.

It must be the guns fault.

Those of us who can shoot it, tend to like it.

I really like the simplicity and reliability thing, not to mention the splendid ergos.

It was so good to me that my SIL got it away from me.

I wish I had it back.

Default My Honest experience with my Sigma 9mm

The Sigma 9mm jammed right out of the box and the trigger pull was unbelievably hard. My gunsmith friend said he would not touch it and to send it back. I called SW and got some PMS witch that wanted to blame the jams on me! I about blew a gasket. I paid to send it back and wrote a detailed letter. I received it back about 2.5 weeks later. The repair invoice said the extractor was replaced and nothing about the extremely hard trigger pull. I found a trigger fix on here and discovered the parts had deep grooves in it. I smoothed everything out and the trigger is about 75% smoother. I finally got a decent gun, but had to spend time and money to get it to work properly. By the way, Glock owners get bad guns too! My next purchase is either a MP 40 or SD40. I like SW and will always buy them, period! I have a whole bunch of SW handguns and the 457 is the best they ever made and I will die with it! My only 2 complaints is the customer service witch that wanted to argue with me right out of the gate and the repair center that ignored my request to have the trigger fixed.

A follow up, finished my second day of tactical training with my Sigma, 600+ rounds, two days, single shot, double tap, triple tap, rapid fire full mags with reloading. Running to cover, draw and shoot, shooting from inside a car, climb out, find cover, shoot, night shooting, flash light techniques. Had one failure for the slide to lock back on an empty mag, that was about it. NO other prolblems. The Sigma was as accurate, (or inaccurate as was the case more than once), as everyone else attending the class, ('cept for the instructor, he's freakin' good with about anything he shot). There was a Sig Sauer that had a few issues, an FN I think was the brand, had a couple of 'hiccups', a Kel Tec PF9 with a few issues, (familiar with them, I also own one, didn't use it for the weekend). Long story short, would I trust my LIFE to my Sigma, HELL YES!

Default Happy with Sigma. Finally

I have had my Sigma 9mm for 2 weeks. The first two week's were hell with this gun. I had FTF on every 4th or 5th round. Plus the slide would not stay open on the final round. I made the switch from UMC 115gr FMJ to American Eagle 124gr FMJ. After 300rd not a single FTF and the slide stays open after the last round is fired. My shot group isn't the best, but at 16ft I won't miss. I have had a few people tell me the Sigma is a piece of junk. Well I disagree totally. I will carry my Sigma on my side with no worries.
Another happy Sigma owner

I concur, just quit hating because you spent 700.00 and some of us spent 250.00-300.00 and have a quality pistol. (IMHO)
