Info Request On A S&W .40 Mag
Greetings!
I'd appreciate some info about a S&W .40 magazine that I have.
I bought this 15-rounder back in the day when the "legal limit"
was 10 (and it was very expensive to buy during those days)!
I would think, then, that this is what is called a "pre-ban"
magazine (or else, it wouldn't have been sold to me by a gun
store). I used it (or rather kept it) with a Sigma .40E that came
with two 10-rounders. When the "assault gun ban" was allowed to
"sunset," I was able to buy two more high-cap S&W mags. But it
struck me as odd that the latter-day high-cap mags for the Sigma
were only 14-rounders, while my older one was 15-!
Well, last week I traded that Sigma 40E for a 39-2. But I couldn't
find that old 15-rounder in my cabinet and the guy who got the
Sigma said it's alright as he got the other four mags anyway.
He moved upstate the following day.
Today, I find the 15-rounder. And I'm intrigued as to what other
S&W gun I can use it in. Perhaps there's a fellow member in this
forum and sub-group who can enlighten me.
Thank you in advance.

As far as I know a Sigma mag is a Sigma mag. It might fit a SD, but I'm not sure.
If you don't own a Sigma anymore I'm sure you can sell it, or if you know the address of the out of state purchaser you could always mail it to him.

The 15 Round mag is for the 1st generation Sigma, the 40F. I believe this was the first Sigma produced in about 1993. I still have mine and it works great to this day. I abused it shooting USPSA Limited class for 2 years. I still shoot it ocasionally in IDPA matches. The second generation 40 frames (40V,E ect.) used the 14 round mags.

Thanks for the info. I've been using that 15-rounder in my 40E for the past 10 years and it has not given me any problems.
When inserted into the 40E, the only discernible/visible difference was the "thicker" base plate of the 15-rounder (which looks,
to me, like an electric shaver's head...haha!) as compared to the thinner base plate of the 14-rounders (of which I had two).

One interesting thing is your mag pre-dates the current Sigma, as the new Sigma mag in .40 holds 14rds. Still a common mag if you aren't in a banned state

Would you be willing to send it to a USAF member in CA?

Funny Question, it doesn't seem like anyone else wants to ship mags with a capacity over 10rds to California--You trying to start some trouble?

not trying to start anything. I bought my .40 sigma from my FFL and I got it with a 14rd mag. I was looking on-line to buy more but no one will sell it better yet ship it to me because I am in CA. I was informed by my FFL that as a Mil member I can have the 10+ rd mags just have to hold the Mil ID. But no one on line is ever willing to ship to me. Just asking if he would and not looking to get anyone in trouble. My FFL ordered me an extra one last week but I hate paying $40+ for one. If I have been misinformed or my FFL is incorrect please let me know. I don't want to be breaking the law unkwoingly. Ignorance is the worst reason to go to jail for. Thanks
