Anyone out there have a review of the SD long term? I have made it a point to never buy first generation firearms, I'll be damn if I have to pay to be a company's RnD dept. Most firearms have had problems on the first run.

From what I have come across it seem several have had problems with a pin coming out of the frame as well as a broken slide hold open lever.

Anyone have any long term experience with them?

Well, to be honest, the frame, other than the sear block, is 4th generation Sigma, and the slide is a combination of M&P (sights & extractor) and Sigma (everything else).

Truthfully the problems you cite are a trigger pin installed backwards (or maybe S&W milled the groove on the wrong end ) and someone possibly shooting +++P+++ loads blowing the slide lock off the pistol (twice!). I can't swear that this one has been put to bed, but if that is the case, then only losing the slide lock as a result of an overpressure is a good thing. Google Glock Ka-Booms for a comparison.

Truthfully, to be totally above-board, mine has been flawless for 1500 rounds, no failures of any kind, very accurate.

About 6500 rounds so far with the only issues coming from some really light relaods I made up for my wife to shoot. 2 separate 2 day courses where it was abused to the max. Still nothing broken or remotely damaged. Plain and simple it just works.

This is a comparison review I did, but had the SD for several months with 1000+ rounds through without issue. Get one, you won't regret it.

How can you have a long term review when the SD is so very new on the market?

If you put 5000 rounds in one day or 10 years its the same amount of use, think about it for a minute. Looking for input from guys who have shot more than a few boxes of ammo.

If it's just a few boxes- I'm up to 300+ rounds since it came back. I fired about 250 before I noticed the tritium sight was dead. But while they had it they fixed the empties ejecting on to my head, funny stuff, they would land right in the middle of the top of my head. Anyway I have it back, as people say good CS. Empties now shoot straight out/right. Some people get a free magazine or somehting when they send a weapon back- this is my 3rd repair (different guns) in the past year and not one freebie. I must be doing something wrong.

I've shot about 600 rounds through my SD40 so far using a lot of different ammunition, BUT my gun LOVES the winchester whote box 165 grain FMJ. I consistently get two inch (measured center to center) groups over a sandbag at 25 yards. Not one failure to feed, fire or function (eject). Sorry it's not more rounds, but ammunitin is getting (read that gotten) expensive and my son has the habit too. Six hundred rounds and no wear, no worries and no way my shooting buddys can outshoot me while I hold that gun in my hands!

Don't get me wrong, I love my Glocks but that SD40, well there's something about it. Looks, feel, the way it groups, it just keeps getting better and better to shoot!

I had numerous failures to feed this weekend using PMC 165 grain flat nose FMJ. It is the first time I have fired it since installing the Apex spring kit but I don't see how different springs could have anything to do with it. Previously with other ammo it functioned perfectly. Anyone else had problems with PMC?

Since it's back, I'm up to 800+ - not a whisper of a problem.

I honestly dont like my SD40 the grip on my Sigma 9mm feels far better, between the mag rattle and the slide rattle CC is a no go with this gun just way too loud. The gun is pretty snappy as it is very light seems to kick harder than my compact 45. The trigger is ok but then again I had no problem with my Sigma 9mm trigger. Love the sights and standard rail. Dislike the fact that the rear frame rails are not attached to the frame but instead the removable sear block.

I wont sell it but wish I had bought a Sigma 40 though

Have had my SD9 for about 4 months now and have put about 400 rounds through it. No failures, true sight and tight grouping. I have noticed however that it has the capability to jam very easy if the shooter limp wrist shoots. Had my 12 year old brother shoot and found that out.

Other than that I am extremely pleased with the price, performance and reliability of the SD9.

I don't know an exact count of rounds fired but I'm right around 1500 or so. I dry fire the gun all the time practicing. Snap Caps? What are they? lol. Or I'm testing S&W's assertion that dry firing the gun doesn't hurt anything. If it does, I'll discover a problem.

The only falure I've ever had with it is the slide didn't lock back once on the last round, I have no idea why. Took apart, inspected, and cleaned the mags and now I'll be paying attention to see if it does it again. I usually fire Federal from Walmart but it's seen only factory ammo such as Winchester, Mag Tech, Federal or Remington. I did shoot a couple clips of blazer the other day, never any problems, I can't comment on reloads.

A short while back I was worried that the slide was a little too loose from the frame but my father, who is way more experienced with firearms pointed out that it was as loose the day I bought it as it is now. I guess I just never noticed until I held it side by side to a Ruger. I don't have a slide rattle.

I installed the Apex spring kit and the only thing that changed was reducing the trigger pull from 8 1/2 pounds to 5 1/2 pounds. No problems from that aspect either.

Overall, zero problems that would make me question the gun's reliability.

I am a newbie, so if this is a stupid question, please forgive me. Could replacing the guide rod and spring with the Galloway 20 pound help with heavier ammo? The SD9VE comes stock with a 17 pound spring.

SD40 VE - Impressions on the gun

Short answer, I love the gun, mags are a little noisy when fully loaded, doesn't make a peep when a round is chambered though. Great on price, accurate, all around decent carry weapon. Seemed like it was fully broken in at around the 250-300rnd mark. Trigger pull is a bit stiff at first but once your used to it its alright.

I purchased my SD9ve over a year ago just before the gun & ammo run started. I got it because my better half got her permit & need a lot of range time to become comfortable drawing, firing & hitting the target.
I said that to say we both shot this pistol a lot. I stopped keeping count at over 2000 rounds a long time ago, we go the range almost every week. I have put any kind of ammo I can get through it from WM federal, imported, hollow points, reloads even some old stuff I got at a gun show. flawless, the best weapon you can get for the money. I would & do depend on the pistol for self defense.

Has anybody had a problem with the SD9VE not firing? I have put around 300 rounds through mine so far and I have about 15 unspent rounds setting in my drawer. It goes CLICK and then nothing.. i can see where the primer was struck but it seems light and off center. I have tried Win,Fed,Rem and other types of ammo. Same result. I already contacted S&W and I am sending the gun in to be looked at.

I had that happen one time out of 300 plus rounds so far, but the primer was struck good, so I chalked it up to bad ammo by Federal. I have shot at 6 different kinds of ammo thru it and it has performed great.
