Just bought a Sigma 9
Howdy,
I just recently purchased an SW9VE and I was wondering if I should lubricate it prior to shooting it for the first time. I'm a handgun newbie and am not really sure what to do in that regard. I plan on breaking it in tomorrow with about 250 rounds.
Thanks in advance

I always clean and lube any firearm before I shoot it, especially a new tight weapon that may need some breaking in.

Clean the barrel and put a little oil/grease around the barrel (where the slide will slide over.) Grease the rails and you're good to go.

My sigma came in packing grease not a lube. I would suggest cleaning it up then lubing. At least lube the rails and make sure it's not packed in the thick, stciky stuff.

Check out the manual that came with your new gun. It shows (6) points where a single drop of lubricant is recommended, and cautions against over-lubrication.
Go shoot it a bunch, and enjoy it!

I used to clean and lube my guns before I shot it for the 1st time. However now and days I shoot it at the same place I bought it without cleaning it. I never had a problem doing it both ways.

I don't think it'll matter much if you lube it or not before shooting ...I really don't think you'll ruin it that way, but that's just me. But, I'd also inspect it, at home, before I'd take it to the range. I also clean my firearms after every trip to the range, and that's when I usually lube them.

ALWAYS fully break down and clean your firearms you never know there could be a small hairline crack which could be deadly when fired or other problems with the gun like machining shavings stuck in the gun or anything for that matter
