I have the original SD40 that came in the self defense kit and was wondering if there was a laser sight made specifically for this gun. It came with the S&W micro 90 flashlight and I like the look and feel of the flashlight. I am looking for a laser that uses the lock bar with the rail and has similar on/off slide switch and the push button on/off.

In the self defense course I took the instructor who is a SWAT team member recommended only a flash light on your weapon. He claimed that you will lose valuable time trying to find the laser dot under a stressful situation and that you're better off learning to fire using the front sight. The mag light will also identify the target and possibly keep you from shooting a family member instead of a bad guy. I have a laser on mine and I find that to be true. Mine is a cheap laser that bolts to the trigger guard and I frequently bump it and knock the spot off target requiring re-zeroing it. Once it's aligned it's great for target shooting, but I always feel like I'm cheating when I use it.

I installed a Streamlight TLR-4 laser/light combo on my SD40 VE. I love it, and feel it's a must have for night-time home defense. It attaches and detaches so easily, without losing zero, that I simply remove it for daytime carry and put it on at night!

+1 for the TLR4. I have one on my SD40 VE as well, and use it in the same method as you. However I do have a raven concealment lightbearing holster on order so I can carry it with the light attached at all times.

Walmart has a Nebo light/laser combo for $79. I bought the light only model for $39. 190 lumens. Bright as hell.

Crimson Trace CMR-201 Rail Master Universal Laser

Is anyone using the Crimson Trace CMR-201 Rail Master Universal Laser with an SD40VE?

I have used both the 201 and the 203 but because the 203 is a little to large I will be going to return to the 201 as soon as I can sell the 203. The second picture is my SD40VE with the Rail Master 201 on it.
