Default SW9M age?

Just picked up a Sigma today without a single scratch on it. I was also surprised to find no wear marks anywear. Feed ramp is clean, barrel is clean inside and out. No wear marks from the slide. Seems like some one bough this and stored it away. Anyways, i would like to get an age on the gun. Can you tell by the serial number? Never have bought a gun this old. My 457 two tone was easy to date

You would have to contact S&W or get a book on serial numbers.

I think that model was made only a few years starting in 1995 and wasn't very popular.
They were only intended for about 5,000 rounds that was about it.

The gun is one of if not the worst pistol they made.

Good luck with it.

The early models had a lot of problems. They were fixed in the later models. That being said, that looks significantly different than my Sigma SW9VE. It's got a completely different grip and slide. That leaves me to believe it's one of the models from the 90's that had issues. The newer versions like mine, IMO are some of the best guns they've ever made. Especially for that budget price. I haven't had a single FTF or FTE in mine, the grip is comfortable and the trigger is ok once you get used to it. I have heard some people say that they sent those old models back to S&W to get reworked and they ended up getting the new version back because S&W wanted to get those off the street and replace with the reliable version. Probably less of a legal headache in the future. I don't know how true it is or how often it's done though.

If it shoots, great! If it doesn't, hopefully Smith will be interested in melting this one down too

That is the 380's bigger brother, but the mag release was just like the 380 (squeeze the sides of the magazine and pull the mag down).

I bought one sometime around 1998. It was the biggest mistake of my Smith & Wesson life. I couldn't get through a full magazine without at least one malfunction. Smith & Wesson stated they couldn't fix it and that the model was discontinued so they offered me the full purchase price towards any other model (3rd gen auto in the same caliber).

My CS9D replaced it and I couldn't be happier.
