Yes I searched... SW40VE holster & trigger ?'s
Hey All. I've spent the last few days using the search function and I'm so close but not quite there. I could use just a bit of help.
I was given an SW40VE AF as a gift a few years ago. I have just recently gotten into getting familiar with it (my first firearm) and putting some rounds through it. I don't have anything to compare it to so it's fine by me. I do have two questions though.
First on the list is a holster. I found an Uncle Mikes Tactical Reflex Holster (size 09-74091) that is pretty nice. It's not perfect but it could do. What I'd really like is a Blackhawk. I have seen mention of the Serpa Concealment Holster so I went to look at them. I found one that says is fits the M&P 9/40 Sigma and thought that'd be the one. My 40 won't fit in it. It has a 10 written on the corner of the box. I'd really like the Serpa. Could you help me with what specific one to get?
Next up is the trigger. I'd like a slightly softer trigger but I'm ok with it for now. In doing my reading I saw people mention of the trigger being gritty. I would say that mine is gritty without a doubt. I know what parts need to be sanded/polished. I'm looking for a little more advice in the way of the grit of paper to use. Does it just need a little sanding with a really find grit?
Thanks for your help.

I won't comment on the holster, other than to say that the one for the M&P model fits.
Do not attempt any alterations unless you know what you're doing...you could either break and ruin your firearm, or much worse...make it unsafe to fire. If you have the ability to follow the directions below, be my guest. If you need help on it, PM me.
As for the trigger...don't use sand paper, use small polishing stones. Start at 220 grit and end with 600 grit, then use a rotary tool with a small felt polishing bob and some rouge or Simichrome. Don't try to polish the plastic...I have one in my shop right now where the previous owner tried that...I am waiting on a replacement part for it. Re-assemble the firearm, DO NOT DELETE ANY SPRINGS, and use graphite where the block rubs on the plastic. Don't use oil or grease, as they will both hold dirt and increase the grittiness.
If you're interested in an IWB holster, Kholster makes a nice one that you can alter and still have the warranty intact.

I'm an idiot. The one I have says it's for S&W 5900/4000 9/40 including TSW models. I knew that when I bought it. When I bought it I looked on the back and I thought the list was a list off all the different pistols that would fit. I now see it's a list of the different MODELS of the Serpa and what guns will fit those models. I have the model 10 but it looks like I need the model 25. Oops.

Great advice. Thank you. I am fairly mechanical so I'm not too worried after watching a number of videos. But I don't have any polishing stones so I guess I'll be one of those guys who just lets target practice polish the innards.
And I will say, I would love a slightly lighter trigger but I don't know enough about how things work inside to feel comfortable taking a spring out or swapping one for a spring out of a pen.
I will look into the IWB Kholster. I'm going to go for my concealed carry in July. So maybe it'll be a good Christmas present.
Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. Not sure how much I'll contribute around here (cause I'm so new) but I've been reading a lot of what you guys have posted. It's a wealth of knowledge. Again, thanks.

You don't need to apologize about searching...I've rarely been able to find what I wanted using the search function on this forum. It's rather persnickity!
I like the heavier trigger on my SD9VE, since it doesn't have a thumb/grip safety. But that's me...a lot of others don't...and many have written good things about the Apex trigger kits. You might want to see if you can read a few topics on those.

The OP has a SW40VE not a SDVE. He has the 12# trigger and you have a 8# trigger give or take. Not trying to be ugly but it is apples and oranges. The Apex kit will only yield a 1-2# difference in the SWVE.
As for sand paper. I used sand paper and a dremel tool and don't see the problem with it.

I know I risk sounding rude, and I don't mean to sound that way...If you don't know enough about how things work inside to feel comfortable, then perhaps polishing it isn't for you.
That being said, you can hose that section down with a good spray shotgun cleaner, then with some canned air, and add graphite to the radius of the assembly...but don't take it apart. There are three springs in there, and you need to take it all apart to get to the block to polish it.

First, I thought I had read that the Apex kits weren't for the SW models. I'll look into them in the future. But it's good to know you used sandpaper and a dremel with good results.

Do the 9 and 40 have the same sized bodies?

I don't mind you sounding rude... which you didn't to me. We are talking about a gun. Safety is pretty important. I guess what I mean is if I'm going to replace springs I want to know exactly what they do. I have read some saying it's fine and others saying it's not wise. If I'm taking something out I want to be able to explain why... not just "somebody online told me to." On the other hand, I know what parts need polishing and have watched enough vids to see that it's something I could do. Polishing is different than taking parts out. I'm a fairly handy guy.

If the holster fits the SD, it will fit the SW...they have the same exact profile.

I have 2 bianchi accumold holsters....one for a 5906, and the other for a Sigma 40VE. The holsters are fit for Glock 19 or 22 and both my pistols fit these like they were molded for both. The 5906 has the round trigger guard fwiw.
