Default SD9VE fail to fire

I have a new SD9VE it has failed to fire consistently. May fire the first chambered round, or not. Eject and chamber another round same story. If it does fire, it may fire the next round, or it may not. Might fire 2 in a row on occasion. I have a Taurus PT709 that has worked flawlessly from the start.. So much for S&W
Any ideas ???

You don't mention whether or not it is "new" or just new to you.

If it's new, I would send it back. If used it could be a variety of issues, dirt, damage/wear, oxidation, crud and firing debris in the firing pin channel, etc.

What's the ammo being used? Is it factory or reloaded?

If not an ammo problem, seems most likely to be a striker problem. Worth taking it out, cleaning the striker and the channel (apply minimal oil), and trying again.

If that doesn't fix it, call S&W and they'll email you a return label. You'll have it back pretty quickly.

Not enough info. is it factory new, has anyone worked on it, what kind of ammo, did you get another shooter to try it, dry firing do you feel / hear the trigger click, make sure you are dot restricting the action of the slide or slide lock.

Good point. In a SD9VE that is used, a previous owner might have tried to lighten the trigger by removing one of the two sear springs (instructions to do this are out on the web, but it is not a good idea!).

Or, the pistol might have a weaker striker spring installed. Lighter striker springs are included in one of the major company's spring kits -- but some users report they cause light strikes.

Or, the striker channel could just plain be dirty, if the gun has been used a lot (excessive oiling, or getting oil in the striker channel, plus powder residue, can gum things up in there).

If it is store-bought new, I'd still check the striker channel for debris, and if that isn't the problem, I'd call S&W Customer Service next monday.

It is BRAND NEW.. me and my son have both tried shooting. It is NOT the ammo. primer is not even being struck. When you pull the trigger nothing happens no click ,no nothing, trigger is pulled all the way back and nothing happens. I thought it might be not letting the trigger to go forward enough to reset... that is not it.
Dry firing the same thing happens, It may click 2 or 3 times then same thing with the trigger pull all the way back and nothing :>(

This is very uncommon for the SD9ve , call S&W they will give you a shipping label , they say to send a letter with stating the problem.
I have had no problem with mine over 3 years old with lots of use.
But I did send a M&P 15-22 back & got good service.

If it was my SD9ve, I would completely disassemble the slide and clean everything properly (like keeping and making sure that the firing pin chamber, spring, pin are all clean and dry, no lube or cleaner inside there at all) and reassemble it very carefully watching youtube video on the process just to be completely sure. Then try it out again. Only do this if you are comfortable with doing it though, in this process you may fix something without even realizing it, like placing the firing pin and spring and safety plunger back in the proper positions. All I know is that it couldn't hurt as long as everything is back together properly.

If really new just take it back to the dealer for a new gun.

Dealers generally do not accept any returns on firearms, as usually al firearm sales are final. Talking to S&W would be the way to go on this. When you first purchased the pistol, what did you do. If you just loaded it up and fired it, this wouldn't really apply, but if you took it apart and cleaned it before firing, did you stick anything in the slide or add oil to the slide? This seems like a problem with the internal safeties not allowing the striker to fire when the trigger is pulled. I have had my SD9VE through almost 1000 rounds now with zero issues, my former SD9 had ~2500 through it when I sold it, again zero issues over the years. Have had a dozen customers over the years sing their praises as well, so this is indeed a rare issue.

I can't speak for all Bass stores but they took my gun back and special ordered another version for me, even matching the price of a gun at a mail order place. I did get to know the gun manager and it was a special situation.

Did you clean it per the manual before the first use? That's a rather important step. When I had my SD9 it started having Failure to Fire issues along with major failure to eject (it extracted fine, just didn't eject) after about 1500 rounds. Smith fixed it up for me by replacing the firing pin and cleaning the extractor assembly. It worked flawlessly after that. Give S&W customer service a call and they'll get you taken care of.

Default Smith & Wesson SD9 2.0 Failed to Fire

I bought a brand new one last Friday and have had the same result! Took the gun to the range, pulled it out of the holster put a clip in it and fired one bullet. After that, it failed to fire 57 out of 60 times. Had gunsmith at the range look at it, and they could not determine what was wrong with it. Took it back to Academy Sports and they assisted with boxing it back up and sending it back to S&W. Someone at S&W owes me $20 for my range fee lol! Let’s see how they handle this… I own three Springfield Armory XDs and fired over 3000 rounds through them collectively with maybe one shell jamming on ejection. Never seen a gun fail like this one did! Thank goodness it happened at the range and not in a more unfavorable situation! Pending results to follow!

Except for a too heavy trigger which I replaced, the SD9VE I have is as reliable as any pistol I own. My advice would be to send it back to S&W directly with the label they will provide you with after a phone call or a e-mail. I don't fool around with new guns that don't work. It's back to the manufacturer. Luckily that's only once been a S&W.
