SD9VE-CA Removed mag disconnect, slide won't come off now
Pretty much all in the title , after I installed the apex spring kit I figured I'd give ahead and remove the magazine disconnect safety parts (two levers, spring and pin) as well since it's bothersome to me (saw the weapon would still function without somewhere in a thread here) Well after I reassembled the weapon and saw everything was good I went to take another look inside and discovered that I can't remove the slide anymore. Any advice??? Will I need to take this to a gunsmith?

Interesting. I special-ordered the CA version, with some standard magazines, just for the added safety features. I have no need to be able to fire the gun if there isn't a magazine in it and I like the idea of being able to tell, by feel, if there is a round in the chamber.
Also, for my wife, who has a little difficulty in racking the slide, I can leave the gun loaded and cocked, but with the magazine not fully in. All she has to do is push the magazine home and the gun is ready to fire. It's very safe otherwise.
Anyhow, others have posted suggestions for problems similar to yours, inability to remove the slide after doing internal mods. Not sure where to find them.
Have you been able to see anything by looking up the magwell?

I've never handled/owned a pistol with a mag disconnect so I just don't see the need for it for my personal use. There nothing in the mag well I can see that'd enable me to release the slide.

If you ever have to send the gun to S&W for their lifetime full warranty you will have to restore it to factory configuration.

I had the same issue when I put the slide back on with the barrel but no Recoil spring , I kept fooling around with it ...I think had to push on the barrel and it did finally come off

ou1954 makes a good point - and one that I hadn't thought about. Generally, as I have gotten older, I don't mind mag safeties. That said, I ruined the collector value of my Model 61 40+ years ago by crudely deactivating the mag safety. I have an SD9 on my want list and would actually like to have the mag safety version...
This topic reminds me of the home invasion thread (in Maryland) that was top-level here a couple of weeks back. The (NRA) re-enactment showed the retired Metro DC police officer retrieving a full-size Glock from his closet. Getting to the point - he could have made that storage a little safer by having a mag-safed SD9 (or SD40) in the closet - with the loaded mag hidden somewhere - even in a jacket pocket in the closet.
Edited to add: a wee bit off-topic - Sorry!

GeoJelly-
Maybe a bit off topic but important - I'm not a fan of removing safety devices from a weapon that was drop tested as only one item in the process to get on a state roster. Also, I don't want to end up with a gun that has a slide that won't come off because of something I did to it.
Bass Pro had to change their rules to get me the CA version here and they also price-matched for me.
For what it's worth, the magazine safety and tactile loaded chamber indicator, plus the amortized coast of the roster testing, raises the list price by only $20.00.

Somewhat related and also of interest, without starting a new thread.
Oklahoma lawmakers are, or are about to (or have) change(d) the law to allow open carry without training or licensing. The state Concealed Carry manual, and the class and final exam, deal heavily with handgun laws. I'm not so sure I want uninformed folks freely carrying a handgun, open or otherwise.

THIS BILL DID NOT PASS. OKLAHOMA HAS LICENSED CARRY.
https://www.ok.gov/osbi/documents/SDA_LAW_BOOK.pdf
OK LICENSEEES SHOULD READ THE SDA EACH NOVEMBER WHEN ANY NEW LAWS BECOME EFFECTIVE

Good info sir - and back on topic: I looked at GB and found one stainless CA-compliant SD9 - but, the seller doesn't say anything about a mag safety. Maybe an oversight, or maybe there have been different CA-legal versions? I don't think I can post a link here - but the item number is: 554156964. You've really got me thinking about the whole mag safety issue - but I'm a day late and ten dollars short because the 3rd Gen's have been out of general circulation for prolly 10 years ... That said - the $339 asking price of the SD9 is much more in line with my fixed income affordability ...

I did the same thing. Ended up with the same problem of a stuck slide.
Now what!
EDIT: Problem fixed. Locked slide back and removed striker assembly. Slide can off easily.
