Default SD-VE Polymer rod /w upgraded spring ?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a 20-lb recoil spring for the SD-VE ? - or an assembled polymer rod /w 20lb spring?

I know people have been buying the after-market "Assembled Stainless Steel Guide Rod"...

I would like to stick with with the polymer guide rod, but simply change from the 17lb-18lb spring to a 20lb-21lb ..or even back & forth depending on what I want to shoot.. I would prefer an assembled unit, so that swapping would be easy...

Also, I believe I/We would want the "flat", not "round" spring type ? (Flat is what comes stock?)

It is recommended that you stick with the factory recoil spring. There are currently issues with the aftermarket springs.

Yes indeed, flat for sure. There is a very good discussion about this on the ISMI website, have a look.

Integrated Systems Management Inc.

Here is a short quote from their website that will answer your question without searching.

Because of the properties of music wire; it cannot be heat treated, shot peened and stress relieved after the spring is wound. Additionally, music wire lacks consistency from bulk lot to bulk lot. This results in inconsistent performance from spring to spring. This is the same technology that was in use 90 years ago when John Browning designed the 1911 style pistol.
