Hi I saw a SW40F at the local gun store, I heard the F series where the first sigmas S&W made. My question to you you guys is that why is this gun has the rail like my sw40ve? It currently has an attached flash light on it. Its all black but not an alied version is what the guy said, I didnt get a chance to see if its 4.5" or 4" barrel. The gun will comes with two 10rd mags, and orginal hard case for it, and it even equip with nightsights but seem like it was put on years ago. all this for 299 plus tax. What do you guys think is this gun worth picking up or passing it? Anh

I think that all 9/40F were 4.5" barrel. IMO, I would pass on it since you can pick up a new 40VE for about that price at Buds. Plus those versions of the sigmas look ugly.

The 40F has a problem with frame fractures. I know a guy who has had one for about a decade with no problems whatsoever. The price was quite high for a 40F, so you're better off missing the purchase. Like the previous poster said, that's nearly the price of a new 40VE. I bought a used Sigma 9F for $150 with 2 hi-caps. Maybe it's the trigger or maybe it's the longer barrel, but the 9F out-shoots the 40VE I own and the 9VE I sold. I've seen 40Fs and 9Fs sold used for under $200 around here. Now that's a great deal, the 9F in particular.

The last SW40F I had was a 4.5" LEO trade in from the Germantown, TN PD as evidenced by the G-town PD Logo burned/engraved in the left grip. When I bought it about four years ago it came with ten fouteen/fifteen round mags and two ten round mags, near new (2003) night sights and the correct numbered factory case with papers. OTD I paid $145.00. At your dealers asking price I would run far and fast too find a new dealer, and be thankful someone else bought it.

I sold eight of the hi cap mags for $15.00 each and the two ten round mags for $10.00 each. I sold the gun last year with two fifteen round mags, correct numbered case and papers for $225.00.

Our departments current duty gun is the 40F. I was skeptical when I got there but we have had no problems at all with any of them. We have been carrying them since 1997. We are currently in the process of updating to the M&P40. For what its worth when I called to trade them in they commented, "40F? You have the good ones". We are getting $175 a piece with 3 mags for trade-in.

$299 is probably too high for an older Sigma pistol. If you want to put a light on a gun your best bet is going to be something with a universal rail, as the Sigma E/VE/G/P series pistols have a proprietary rail for which only a few accessories exist. For not much more money you could probably find a used 3rd generation Glock which will have a rail.

well the sw40f kinda look neat being all black and decked out, I kinda wanted 2 40s but i guess faith just had it that that gun was sitting there for 6months and when I thought of buying it it was sold the same day! wow.... thanks all for your input.

I have one. The only thing I don't like about it is the trigger pull. Other than that its a pretty good gun.
