Default Unusual 915

I was perusing Gunbroker and came across a very unusual model 915.

This 915 has laser etched markings on the slide and frame. It also has a MIM hammer. The most unusual thing is the serial number. In addition to being laser etched it is a very recent prefix "UCF21XX".

The mags have yellow followers and it is in a blue plastic box. Despite the sellers claim that this 915 is "new", it evidences signs of being fired quite a few times.

All in all a very curious 915. My guess is that someone shipped in a broken 915, and S&W slapped this together as a replacement. Those laser etched markings look terrible on that gun. Poorly done, IMO of course.

What do you gents suppose? Regards 18DAI.

I go for S&W using up some leftover parts myself. You could call and ask the ship date on the serial number, but I just had a distributor last year buy up a shipment of odds and ends from S&W some with fired cases in them from '06. I think the mags do have orange followers, I think it's just the camera flash making them look "yellow".

I'm pretty sure I found the one to which you refer and think that it being a less refined bargain model and poor lighting are giving the illusion of use. Any marks seem to be from handling if anything.

The "9MM" stamped in the barrel hood also looks like stampings on more recent TSWs.

I also think they should have upgraded to Novaks on these if they did or are going to do an updated version.

My $.02 since you asked,
Scott

I agree that both the lighting and gun finish created the illusion of wear on that 915. Looks really off compared to the mental image I have of the 915. The price is also outside of the norm too, makes me wonder if the seller thinks he has something unique or special.

915s were straight grips
I agree with HG356
Either old parts usage or a contract overrun ?
Interesting the barrel has the newer 9mm markings without the cartridge indicator cut out
