SW1911's who has one, opinions?

I have had my 1911 PD ( 45 cal. ) for about 5 months and had to send it back to S&W because of failure to feed. They replaced the barrel and has been fine since. Very accurate and it is great to shoot!

I have a Performance Center 1911, the one with the fishscale serations on it. This gun is as tight as a cat's butt; and every by the quality of an Ed Brown or Les Baehr. And, can be had for a few hundred less.

The heavy duty external extractor is a plus and that alone would headspace a short case.

A very accurate gun with any fodder i want to put through it.

I just bought a 5" Pro Series 1911 and a 3" Pro Series 1911, they are both great pistols; the 5" has fiber optic sights fron and rear and makes me look like I know what I am doing at the range. I am definitely a 1911 convert.

I have no complaints with mine.

[lang=da]I had the basic stainless steel 1911, shot great, no issues.Sold it to a friend, still going strong. Heard alot of negative talk about the external extractor, no issues with it.
I just prefer the looks of the internal extractor. But they are good handguns.[/lang]

I have a SW1911 Compact ES, and I really like it.

I carry the 108309 at work daily. It's the stainless with Melonite finish, full size, without the firing pin block, and no acc rail. I can't get it to malfunction. It loves our agency's issued 185gr +P loads.

Bought a S&W 1911 earlier this week. Ended up being one of the nicest pistols I've ever used. Noted no trigger or operational issues. I am not a competitive shot however. All I know is the center black of the target was gone after 100 rounds at 35 feet.

I have several 1911 by various makers and two of those are S&W 45acp.

There is not a finer gun made than those S&W 1911 in .45acp.

I have always likes the S&W lineup but when I recently bought one of their 1911 models, I was impressed beyond words and that is amazing since I am never short on words and a major gun collector. Within 30 days of receiving the first S&W 1911, I ordered a second and it was just as good as the first right out of the box.

Yes, they are pricey but they are far superior to any made by other companies. They are better than my custom made 1911 without question.

I have the blued fixed sight government model. I've owned it for about 18 months, put about 2000 rounds through it, and have had absolutely no operational problems whatsoever. The gun has never misfired or jammed and it is dead on accurate. The trigger is crisp without any creep or overtravel. So, performancewise, it is as close to perfection as I could hope for.

My only (minor) complaint has to do with the fit of the slide and frame. There's a a very slight misalignment which has caused some wear of the frame's finish on one side up near the muzzle, due to the slide rubbing against the frame at that point during operation of the gun. Honestly, I don't care enough to return it to Smith in that it is a cosmetic and not a function issue. I've also noticed that the blueing is wearing a bit at the corners of the gun and at points where the gun makes contact with holsters, gun rugs, etc. Also not a concern.

Man I'm trying to find a 9mm 1911 so I can afford to practice more. Does the smith have a ramped/supported barrel?

I have a 1911 9mm Pro Series also, great gun, I carry it on and off duty.

Yes it does have a ramped barrel.

I've been thinking about getting one myself. A dealer up in Columbus has them for $869.99 with payment same as cash for 9 months. I have several 1911s' including a Gunsite S&W and based on my experience with my Gunsite I'd like to try a full size steel frame S&W 1911.

S&W 1911

Go for it! I've got 3 and love them all.

I have owned a few Colt's that were rattle traps but they all functioned very well and were accurate so good luck with whatever you end up with!

That looks like mine

I have a S&W 1911 108284 and it is a pleasure to shoot, extremely accurate out of the box, but it is a PITA to field strip to clean, as are all 1911s.

I have one of those too. I had to adjust the overtravel, which make it a much nicer trigger. I tried my target reloads when the gun was new and they were not heavy enough to cycle the slide. Factory 230 ball worked great. I have a couple other 1911's and this is tight, has a great finish and good trigger. I looked at Kimber at $1400, but bought the Smith at about $800. I am not a bit sorry, from what I hear about Kimber's functioning problems.

I also have a SW1911DK, it's my favorite gun to shoot. Any issues are the result of a newbee reloader.

I took advantage of Smith's offer to active/retired military last year to get a 108284. I could not be more pleased. The trigger is as close to perfect as you can get. (Outside a revolver.) I have a very highly tuned Colt series 70 and the Smith is better, I think, although hard to tell.

I also have a Kimber in 10mm, and it has no problems. I'm sort of surprised to hear of issues with them here. I can shoot hotter loads in that than I can in my Smiths, and accurately.

I love mine ,I just picked up a nighthawk and I can't tell what all the extra money was for.I've got about 3krds through mine and its never missed abeat.I just wish I had some other sights on it.I fit an ambi. ed brown safety, changed grips, trigger and guiderod
