The Miami Vice thread got me thinking of the movie Training Day I saw the other night. I've seen that movie no less than 20 times. Until I received my S&W 3rd gen education here, I did not notice that Alanzo (Denzel) was carrying two 4506's. Great scene when he pulls out both and fires gansta style at those guys.

Any other movies where 3rd gens show up?

"Dark Blue". Kurt Russel packs a 4506. Training Day was a good movie, but how was Denzel carrying TWO of those monsters? Imagine the back pain. And the side holding shooting scene was cool, but no cop was ever trained to shoot that way. I guess the director made him do it to show he was more "gangster" than cop.

And "Resovior Dogs". They all carry stainless second gens.

Back many moon's ago when when Discovery channel was good, they had a series on the US Marshals. During the first series almost all the Deputy Marshals were carrying the4506 or 4566.

The department I worked for in Georgia issued the 4506-1, and I was the last to go kicking and screaming to turn it in for a glop 22.

Amen! How many pounds of S&W do you think he was carrying? Maybe 8? 2 fully loaded 4506's - don't know off top of my head.

Unless I'm thinking season 1, I thought it was a 1911, or a Browning HP. Now you got me wondering.....

Maybe I have my seasons mixed up. I think in season 1 they used a Beretta 92F (not sure if it was a FS)???

One other thing heybrowndog, goooooooood looking chocolate lab you have there! We have one as well!

Continuity screw up on Training Day

Maybe the LAPD REALLY DID need a decocker training school -- for Training Day....

Did you notice on one screen cut -- where Alonzo was threatening the two "crack heads" who were about to rape the Hispanic girl in the alley way -- he had the safety off?

Then, half a second later, in the next cut, he had them on.

I only saw the movie once, but that grabbed me by the throat -- and I laughed 'til I was purple.

Denzel apparently couldn't figure out what those levers were supposed to do..."Training Day" is right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The "continuity" people on the film crew screwed up yet again...

I might be mistaken but I think in "Street Kings" he was carrying a Kimber SIS 1911 in part of the movie and the Smith in others.

Try Homicide/Robery with Tom Sizemore. Both of the "Seasoned" officers carried 4506's.
BTW I love Micheal Mann stuff!!

Very perceptive!!! I'm going to have to look for that the next time it comes on TV.

Got Netflix and am watching X-files again. In season 3 both Molder and Scully are carrying 5906's...the model I love with the square trigger guard and the winged cover plates on rear sight.

In street kings it was a 1066 (I believe) based on the single stack mags and the rounds per reload.
And he had a 1911 for some of it. Kimber or SA "loaded" makes sense based on the pure ugliness of it.

Ok, my take on Street Kings was when Reeves went in to the drug house and did his thang, it looked to me that whatever gun he had had the decocker only, cause I thought I saw the lever pop back up after he dropped the safety. I think we need someone with the movie to check out that scene. :D

Totally. Plenty of 3rd gen guns had that option. S&W used to perform the conversion to decock-only for a price (they tell me they don't anymore).

In "the Rock" there's a scene where one of the bad guys is slowing spinning the top of a stool around and I'd swear there's a S&W pistol on top of it. I'll have to get my copy out and watch it again.

Yep, good one.

How about Top Shot, 2nd season? Looks like they were using a 3rd gen when they were shooting each other's targets. Anyone know?
Top shot season 1 used a beretta 92 of some sort and season 2 used a 1911 of some sort with an extended mag. I thought I heard it was a para.
