The title is pretty much how this post is going to sound.
In preparation for reloading a couple thousand 9mm's, I decided to try a different powder. Therefore a sample run was made to verify how well the combo of bullet and powder performed. I was going to go run the trial rounds through a new non-S&W semi auto I had bought, kind of a trial of both ammo and gun, and as an after thought, I threw in a hundred or so 45 acp's I still had left from a previous run of that caliber. I have several 45's, it's one of my favorite calibers and the 1911 design was shear genius on Mr. Browning's part, so I had to give some thought to which gun would go along. I chose one of my S&W PC 1911's (pictured below).
Well the 9mm load turned out to be a bust. The gun I was using is a 1911 design, which I shoot well enough to know if a load is good or not, and this load is not, so back to the drawing board on this one.
But the day was not wasted. I loaded up the PC with my 200 grain semi-wadcutters and proceeded to put 5 shots in one hole at 15 yards offhand. Follow up groups were similar provided I did my part. I have said in other threads on this forum that I would put this gun up against those costing $2k more without hesitation, and it's performance (pun intended) today served to reinforce that thought. As mentioned, I own (or have owned) several 1911 style pistols by various manufacturers including Colt, Kimber and others, and this gun just plain out performs them all, hands down. If I ever get rid of my 1911's, it will be the last one to go. Maybe I got lucky. Maybe my particular load just happened to be simpatico with this gun. I don't know. I do have a new batch of 45's loaded to different specs to try, but I forgot to take any with me today. I seriously doubt they will make any difference though because this gun just plain shoots like every gun should.
So here's the commercial: There are a few products I do not hesitate to endorse. Dillon reloading equipment is one. Snap-On tools (if you can afford them) is another. S&W revolvers in general also receive my approval. When it comes to 1911 45's, this S&W PC is my pick and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking to buy a 1911. It's just that good.
