Does anyone have any information on the 5906's that CDNN has for sale? Like if they are worth $299? I was wondering what kind of condition they might be in?

From what I've read here, they seem to get a big thumbs up and are in better shape than advertised. For what it's worth, at least around here, finding a 5906 for less than $300 is difficult to say the least.

You should get some responses from some of the guys who have purchased from CDDN here shortly -- they'll give you the skinny on their experience.

Go for it. I paid $425 for mine a few years ago & thought it was a good deal. If by chance there is anything wrong with them, it will most likely be cosmetic. Scotch bright will take care of that.

Here is one from CDNN afer a little polishing. Well worth the price.

I sure hope so! Too much drool on my keyboard. I've been tempted to push the order button ever since they started advertising them.

Just read this thread:

Yep, bluejax01 got an absolute smoking deal IMHO on the TSW version which is supposed to be a bit more tricked out than the standard version. I can vouch for that based on my experience -- the 5906 I just picked up at a local shop doesn't seem to have as nice a trigger or balance as my 5903TSW. I paid $330 for each of those as LE trade-in's and another shop I go to has a used on for $350 w/ dead nights sights.

The $299 price from CDDN seems like a winner to me. I'm not sure if you can call them and have them hand pick the best of the lot though.

No need to pay extra for a CDNN "hand pick". They are like new, as my first one was. Second one should be here in two days. I'm just putting the finish on my second set of custom wood grips for that one.

Buy at least one at $299.99 or you'll be sorry you didn't just do it.

Not all are like new. Mine was received three days ago and showed signs of taking a nose dive in gravel. The previous owner also worked it over with fine grit paper and polish.. But far from even in the shine.

Glad some have gotten gems but it is definitely luck of the draw.

I own a nice old 5906, but the grips are kinda knotty from a former LEO holstering and unholstering for what I am sure was a pretty long time. Does anyone out there make Wood grips for the old 3rd generation smiths, or do I have to buy the boring Hogue ones (mind you I think the hogue grips are ultra practical, just aesthetically unappealing)?

I think for the price as long as it shoots you're doing good. I'd like to get one, but I've got a model 59 that scratched my itch for a full-size 9mm :p

Received my 5906 from CDNN yesterday. I would rate the condition as at least very good. Some minor wear from being carried in a holster, but no scratches or scrapes.
Internally the gun is excellent. The Plano pistol case that it came in had a upc inventory sticker on the the outside with the pistols s/n and a grading of vg to ex.
Happy with the purchase, but the Hogue grips are a little too thick for me. Factory grips would be perfect.

Well, Midway and Brownell's are out of the curved but Brownell's does list the straight back factory grips in stock.

Not to stray too far off-topic but is Smith still going to have factory 3rd Gen. grips available or have they discontinued them? They only list Hogue's on their website.

Like I said, just get one. All steel, USA mfg. and not a foreign plasto-matic.

Note: +p and +p+ usage OK

My CDNN 5906 came in last week but to some confusion on my part (first handgun) I can't pick it up til Tuesday/Wednesday. FBI check (thought it was already started).

But they let me handle the pistol and I must say, its built like like a brick, solid and heafty. Good solid American manufacturing. It feels like...when handling it, you are not going to take it for granted kinda feel, you know its there. Comforting.

The condition of the gun was about good/very good. It look like its been in storage for a long time as there was black gunk around the grips. No scratches and grips were nice - didn't see many handling marks.

Now, only if I could afford the Remmington 760 .308 and the Ithica Featherlight they had there (both were my first hunting guns) life would be complete.
