Why shouldn't I purchase this S&W 22A Auto?
Hello everyone, Its my first time visiting your forum, I'm usually hanging out with the old hand ejector revolver crowd, but you guys still will help...right? I was at lunch today, away from home and noticed a nice gun shop in a small town and wouldn't you just know it, I went in.
The long and the short of it was they had a NIB, S&W 22A Talo edition which caught my eye. Especially the price, I think. Out the door for 327.50. I'm saying that would make a nice Christmas present for the misses. It'll be better than that bread maker last year, anyway. My question is, this seems like a real nice piece for the price, am I missing something? I think I remember something about a recall on a plastic internal part some time ago but I'm not sure. I know you guys out there give good advice so thank you in advice for assisting me in this gift endeavor.

I say buy it. It is a wonderfully accurate pistol. Of course I think the wife thing is just an excuse.

I believe the wife thing to be an excuse also, but if not she will enjoy shooting a 22 with little recoil. They are very fun plinkers.
I just want to say HI to evey one also. I have been mostly on the Ruger Forums, because I own 3 Rugers (Mark III Competition, SR9c, P90 ) I have not owned a Smith & Wesson for a while but just purchased a 1960 made Model 41. I can't wait to get it. It will be a couple weeks.

I had one and it is a great little shooter, easy to clean and likes most ammo. Not sure where you are located, but the SW 22A usually goes for $250 or cheaper. Have seen them at gun shows for $219. It does come with 2 mags. You (or the wife) won't be dissappointed. Try BudsGunShop.com or some other internet sites. You still have time.
Hope this helps.

This is the Talo edition, though. Very sharp looking and limited production, last time I checked the various distributors were all out of them. $327.50 out the door is in no way out of line. Mine came with three mags, so there's extra value there, too.

First here's my only attempt to talk you out of it. If your wife doesn't have pretty long fingers, it is a loooonng trigger reach on that pistol.
There.
Now, you should buy it anyway. You'll love it, mine is accurate and reliable, a super value in it's price range and beyond.
OK?

You got yours at a good price. I paid $360 for mine back in July. Nice shooting and I like it as much as my two Ruger Mark III's.

I sold my 22a, and the Beretta neos, bought ruger mark II's, target sights, bull barrels, No comparison for the difference in money. Never buy the cheapest item that any company manufactures, you will always want better. Powder coated and plastic is really not quality. You may get by for a while, but you will always want to up grade.
The one's I had were lemons, Points of Impact were off with sight adj. to the end of travel . I got away from them as quick as I could. 200 dollar guns, are what they are.

When I wanted one there were none to be found. Ended up with a Browning Buckmark, which is fine.
A + of the 22A is that (some/most/all?) of them come with a rail already installed. Makes mounting a red dot or optic simple and inexpensive.

Good value for the money.
I have fired my 22A enough that I have worn out the spring for the slide which is cheap to replace. Only $5.00 each to have shipped in from the US to my home here in Canada. For the price its hard to beat for the quality it has built into it. I have outshot some of the other brands with ease with this gun as the sights are very accurate it seems as well. Its been able to handle anything I have used it for so far which is in excess of 8000 rounds in the last 6 months alone. I also find the balance to be fairly good for a gun of this calibre and price range also. I would definitely recommend one to a friend for sure.

Looks like a pretty good deal. I just agreed to buy one from one of the other forums I'm on. Also the Talo edition, with 3 mags, has also had a trigger job and the owner says it shoots real smooth.
BTW, mine is also for my wife (it really is) - I sold her Walther P22 a couple months ago...we really needed the money, she was a lot more upset than I thought she'd be - it's the only one she likes to shoot.
- gotta keep the wife happy.
- buy another gun? BONUS!

The 22A has some small issues that are easily fixed. For the price you cannot beat it. I'm talking about the regular version. For the Talo price, I would rather have the Ruger or a Browning Buckmark.

talo and mags..jpg
Bill,
Buy the Talo, I have one and shoot it in steel matches and Ruger rimfire challenge, when I can find one close buy. The only plastic you will find in this gun is the recoil buffer. And the mag. bases if you want to count that. It has a steel trigger with over travel set screw. You won’t need a trigger job. After a few thousand rounds the trigger gets real sweet all on its own. When you bring it home clean it and polish the feed ramp. Try to never shoot hollow point rounds. My gun does not like them; they hang up in the mag. and cause feeding problems. Keep the slide well lubed. I have mounted a red dot, and extensions to the bottom of the mags. On the Talo the mag. sits up inside the grip so I beveled it out and added the extensions, so about 3/8 sticks out so you can seat the mag. with the palm of your hand. And by the way, it won’t take long to put a few thousand down range. This gun is a blast to shoot, and a lot more accurate than I am. It is a limited run so snitch it up A.S.A.P.! I paid $320 with tax and tags.
Regards
Brett

There are a few different versions of this gun.
The cheapest is the two-tone. Then comes the solid black, and most expensive, the Talo version.
The only plastic piece that will eventually (years) wear out is the buffer. My gun came with two extras from the factory, but they are really inexpensive to buy.
