Probably 1997 but you'd need to contact S&W to confirm.

Mine is UALxxxx and was manufactured July 1st of 1997, UAV would be right after this so I'm sure it's a '97.

Thanks the dates look to be good...I didn`t have to know exactly but it comes close to when I thought I purchased it...Sad to say I`m getting old enough to forget when I purchased a gun...but I buy a lot of stuff :-)

You have to interpolate. I'd say 1992 is a good guess.

I've was looking at the Ser.# List.
Mine, which I hope to receive tomorrow has a Ser.# TAH299X. I believe the list dates it at around 1986?
I called S&W today & he said the Ser.# is February of 1996. I asked about the Ser. numbering & he stated they are not in consecutive order years, at least for the Model 41. He said they have certain Blocks of Ser.#'s that haven't been unused for over fifteen years.
I believe the Ser.# list is probably 99.9% correct. I just have the Oddball.
My luck seems to border line on No Luck.
I got drafted June 1968 & eight weeks & ten days later I was in Pleiku, Central Highlands, Vietnam. 8" Howitzer & 175MM Gun.
Thanks.

S&W Model 41 Serial Number search
I got my S&W 41 today.
It's has the dark bluing, I think, & their are no holes in the top of the slide.Their are no marks or Blems.
Question,
Does anyone know when they started drilling the two holes on the slide/
Also where is the Number on the Barrel? It looks like mine is a two but kinda looks like a Z??
After using a little Flitz on the Barrel all the bluing matches. I was a little worried.
The fit is tight & the Trigger pull is 2lbs or lighter.
After reading the book the barrel came right off. I cleaned it up & it shines like a Diamond in a Goat's ***.
Looks like the trigger is a touch nicer than my High Standard. I'll keep both.
thanks for any help.
R.

I was hoping someone could look in their Smith and Wesson book and tell me the year of my model 41. The serial number is 97XXX, all numbers. I have not seen similar looking serials on model 41 and I am very curious. Thank you very much to whoever responds!

Looking at the chart at the top of the thread, it appears to be late 60s, probably 1968 or 1969.
I had 99459 which I bought new in early 1969.

I'd like to get a Clark BE-Optics barrel for my 41.
What am I to expect from this barrel, aside from accuracy improvement and different looks?

Give Smith & Wesson a phone call. I have two 41s and they were able to give me the year of manufacture for my A model and year, month, and day for my late model - really nice people.

I know this is an oldpost.. I found a very fine 98% model 41 with 3 mags no box today at a Gunshow private collection. s/n 92xxx
He was asking $1K. Too high if finish is original. Based on GB prices it looks about right and that was only his asking price.
The show is in my town so getting back there tomorrow is 5 minutes away.

G’day Phil
That chart is a guide only and a few serials are out by a few years.
20193 would be closer to 1961.
Wish I could find one, I always have to pay for them

Would someone be able to direct to a list of serial # post 1998?
The above list is super, but only gord thru 1998. Apparently both of mine are newer, UAK 2xxx, and UBY 7xxx?
Also, the engraving on the slides is different. One merely says
Smith and Wesson
Houlton ,ME
the other says
MADE IN THE U.S.A.
MARCAS REGISTRADAS
SMITH & WESSON
SPRINGFIELD, MASS
I did find refernces to this on revolvers, but not the 41?
Thx
greg

There isn't one. Without a historical letter it's only a guess.

There isn't one. Without a historical letter it's only a guess.

If it that "new" you can call and talk to Tech Support at S&W Customer Service in Springfield. They should be able to tell you when it shipped. I have done this several times in past. 1-413-781-8300. Cheers.

So I will wake up this thread as it still is serial number related. Is a 4 digit model 41, no box in a shooter condition worth picking up as a keeper piece just because it is old and gettting harder to find? I understand having the serialized box and condition is everything but even though, is a shooter grade 4 digit M41 worth getting? At $700-$800? Thanks

Thanks for posting.
I just picked up serial 906xx. Looks like sometime in the mid '60s.

A 4 digit aerial number could turn out to be a first year gun. That's Always a plus. Not sure of the value for money as pictures would be needed.

Serial number 90679 shipped in June 1967 but #94036 also was shipped in June 1967. This is a good illustration of Smith & Wesson not shipping in serial number order.
Best estimate on your M41 is late spring to summer 1967. Only a letter will give an exact date.

I know this is an old thread but I have an easy question does the provided SS# table apply to all variations of the Model 41 i.e. the 7 3/8" version, field barrel and extended sight version.

Has the original posted list of serial numbers been update with all of the additional data provided here? If so, where is it posted?
