Default Barrel removal for Model 622/422/2206

I apologize if this has been asked before but I couldn't find it in a search.
My Question:

I have a model 622 pistol. I want to completely remove the barrel assembly from the frame.
I have removed the barrel nut and the lock washer...no problem.
However after field stripping the slide off, the barrel seems to hit against the slide stop mechanism and does not freely come out.
Does anyone know about barrel removal on the 422/622/2206 models without completely disassembling the entire pistol as I have seen on Youtube.

Please email me with suggestions.

Thank you.

Sending you an email, but also posting here:

Forum member skjos put together an excellent "how to" on disassembling these 3rd Generation 22 automatics. Here's the link:

I've owned all three of these pistols until recently, but I never did a complete disassembly on any of them, and I'm frankly not sure whether the barrel can be completely removed without disassembling the frame. I'm thinking that it can't, but I'm not an expert on this. There could be frame parts that prevent removal of the barrel.

You do realize, of course, that the barrel can be cleaned without removing it from the pistol, right? Once you've field stripped the slide from the frame, there is access from the rear of the pistol all the way to the muzzle so that a cleaning rod can be inserted. (Just making sure you know)

Good luck with your project, and welcome to the Forum. Hope you'll stick around with us; this is a nice place to come visit.

Default Thank you.

Hello. Yes this is a great forum. I do know the pistol can be
Field stripped without removing the barrel. My 622 will be a host
To a new silencer / suppressor very soon and I was wondering how Difficult it would be to make alterations if I needed.
The 622 is the perfect host for silencers. But it seems it is a real chore to remove the barrel.

Welcome Clement. For a can you will need a thread adapter from EWK Arms. EWK Arms
While you're there order the socket to remove the barrel so you can do it without boogering up the crown of the barrel.

The owner Eric owns these pistols and is very familiar with them. He is also the best source for new firing pins. Made from titanium they're better than the factory originals which are known to chip or break on some guns. Especially when dry fired.

Why is it that you feel you need to remove the barrel from the frame? I don't think you can do it without disassembling most, if not all, the parts from the frame. It needs the clearance of removing parts, and once you're that far into it you might as well take them out methodically or they're likely to come out on their own when you remove the barrel.
Here are two videos to use in conjunction with the disassembly thread mentioned above. It gives detail you can't see in the videos.
